Online Professional Learning Programme
The Principles for Excellence (PfE) programme has been written to support teachers in Wales with their continued professional development in these unprecedented times.
The Principles for Excellence programme seeks to allow teachers to stay connected to colleagues in their own and other schools, whilst working at home or in a ‘blended’ capacity over the coming months. The PfE allows staff to explore a topic of mutual interest together, reflect on the underlying research and discuss how you could use it in your own teaching in class or at a distance.
The PfE meets many of the criteria of effective CPD (Cordingley et al., 2015) as it:
is sustained over a longer period of time (at least two terms)
includes regular meetings (fortnightly to monthly)
consists of sessions that are tailored to teachers’ needs
involves peer learning
explicitly discusses the translation of research to the classroom
allows teachers time to implement what they have learned
discusses impact of implementing new/adapted practice with colleagues.
PfE Objectives
To provide teachers with:
The skills to demonstrate higher level understanding of the 12 Pedagogical Principles included in the Curriculum for Wales guidance documentation.
The understanding to collaborate effectively with colleagues in their own school and in other schools to raise standards.
The capacity to create a proactive school ethos, where a deeper understanding of the underlying values and principles of pedagogy inform classroom practice and influence all our teaching approaches for our learners.
