Tesco 'Stronger Starts Project'
Thank you to the MPPS community for your support with the 'Stronger Starts Project'. The aim of the project is to raise funds for 'Outdoor Learning Provision'. We want you to help us promote discovery and independence for our pupils by purchasing tools and equipment for them to learn outdoors and connect with nature.
The project with the highest number of votes across our region will receive £1,500 , the second placed project £1,000, and the third placed project £500.

Migration to a New Telephony System
Please be aware of an important update regarding our telephone services. Due to the planned termination of our current MiTel contract lines we will be migrating to a new telephony system with a new number from Friday the 28th of March 2025. See new number below!

A big thank you to our fabulous PTA who have organised a successful Mother's Day Stall once again. It was a delight to see pupils handling money and counting change whilst selecting a special gift for their special person of choice. Have a wonderful Mothering Sunday all!

Internet Safety workshop for Parents
As you are all aware, we have had a week of internet safety concerns, school has managed to arrange an internet safety talk from Gwent Police for pupils from Y3 - Y6 on 1st April during the school day. This will be followed up with a presentation by PC Alex Donne to parents at 5.00 pm in the school hall. He will offer tips and advice on how you can keep your child safe on-line. Please make every effort to attend. We need your support to keep our pupils safe online!

Mount Pleasant’s PTA Easter Raffle
Some amazing prizes including chocolate hampers, craft hampers and vouchers to be won!
The children will come home with a book of 5 tickets (each ticket will be £1). Please could all tickets be returned before the draw date on the 11th April 2025. Thank you!
If you wish to purchase extra tickets, spares will be available at the school office. We will also be selling tickets online; please leave your child’s name and an email address so we can allocate your tickets.

Nursery Parents Welsh Oracy Workshop
Thank you to all of the Nursery Parents who took part in our Welsh oracy workshops this week. It was lovely to see so many parents supporting this priority. Thank you Miss Medhurst and the Y5 pupils for making it so much fun! Diolch!
School Attendance
Remember not to take holidays in term time. Poor attendance can significantly impact on the well-being and academic attainment of your child. Our attendance target is 96% for the whole school. Please see chart which demonstrates the effects of good and poor attendance. Our current whole school attendance is 94.99% if your child is unwell please contact the school office.
The School Essentials Grant
The school essentials grant, funded by the Welsh government funds free school meals and equipment for children with families on low incomes. All primary school pupils in Newport receive free school meals through the universal free school meals.
If your child is in primary school and receiving universal free school meals and you have a low household income (click on the link to see if you are eligible https://www.newport.gov.uk/schools-and-learning/school-meals/free-school-meals ), you should still complete an application form for free school meals.
You may be entitled to further support and your school may also receive additional funding. To receive the school essentials grant support, you have to apply. Click here to access Free School Meals form 2024-25
The grant can help fund:
school uniform (including coats and shoes)
school sports kit
uniform for activities such as, scouts; guides; cadets; sports; performing arts
school equipment (school bags and stationery)
laptops or tablets
equipment for out of school trips such as outdoor learning (waterproofs)

Parking Responsibly at drop off and collection times
This is a reminder to remember to park responsibly at the start and end of the school day. We have received multiple complaints from local residents this week and as such, we have contacted Parking Enforcement, who will be monitoring the area. Please help us to resolve this issue. Thank you.
