Newport Schools' Swimming Gala
On Wednesday, a team of 12 talented swimmers represented MPPS at the Newport Schools' Annual Swimming Gala. They performed absolutely brilliantly, securing mostly 1st and 2nd places in their heats. The standard of competition was incredibly high, with many participants already representing the city, county, and even the country in external galas. The event featured a variety of challenging relay races using all strokes—and even included buoys, woggles, and balls to make things even trickier! Despite being a small school, MPPS came an impressively close fourth overall, just missing out on a top-three finish. A huge thank you to all the parents who came to support us—we’re pretty sure we had the loudest cheering squad there!
Well done, Team MPPS!
The Year 2 Pakistan Project
Year 2 have had the invaluable support of parents over the last two weeks to help support their topic about community. They have been looking at how communities bring people from different places and cultures together. On Wednesday, GEMS supported the class with a project about Pakistan. During the visit the children learnt many interesting facts and took part in activities such as traditional dancing, looking at the Urdu alphabet and trying to say a few words and they also had the wonderful opportunity to have henna designs on their hands. They had a morning full of fun and interactive learning and were thoroughly engaged.
Year 2 want to say a huge thank you for the support they have had from their community to enhance their topic and make it more tangible to them.
Charity Fun Run organised by George Chorley, Year 12 Student from Bassaleg working in Collaboration with MPPS.

The digital leaders have been hard at work creating their next MPPS podcast. Give it a listen and hear what is happening around school and whether you can do the challenge for the next show. Well done to our digital leaders!

If you have any concerns regarding school, please contact the school office.
In the event of a concern, or issue, please be reminded that we have an open door policy where we are more than happy to discuss these concerns and resolve any issues quickly and effectively. Please refrain from using social media to air these concerns, this is not helpful and is also extremely detrimental to the wellbeing of our staff.

School Attendance
Remember not to take holidays in term time. Poor attendance can significantly impact on the well-being and academic attainment of your child. Our attendance target is 96% for the whole school. Please see chart which demonstrates the effects of good and poor attendance. Our current whole school attendance is 94.8%. If your child is unwell please contact the school office.
Sun Protection
Now the Summer Term has started, I wanted to remind you of the importance of pupils wearing sunscreen to school. The sun's rays are particularly strong over the summer period and they can damage children's skin. Your child's health and well-being are very important to us. Please apply sunscreen (at least SPF 30) and 4 or 5 stars sunscreen in the Summer months. Encourage your child to wear a wide brimmed bucket hat or legionnaire style hat. School will continue to monitor time spent learning in the outdoors and encourage use of shady areas where possible. You can find out more information about keeping safe in the sun at www.cancerresearchuk.org .
Your support is very important. You can help us by:
Talking to your child about the importance of sun protection at home.
Sending your child to school with a wide-brimmed hat.
Providing plenty of water in a clearly labelled water bottle.
Thank you!
Brawddegau Bendigedig Bryn Hyfryd
This week's brawddeg yr wythnos is a great one for parents to use! If you want to find out what your children have been doing in school, just use the phrase:
Beth wnest ti yn yr ysgol heddiw?
What did you do in school today?
The children could also use the stem of the phrase to ask you what you did in work today:
Beth wnest ti yn dy waith heddiw?
What did you do in your work today?
In school, we could ask what they did in their play time, so it would be the same stem sentence with a change of vocabulary at the end:
Beth wnest ti yn dy amser chwarae heddiw ?
What did you do in your playtime today?
Once the stem phrase is learnt, it can be used in so many ways! Pob Lwc!
