On Thursday afternoon, we joined a Teams meeting with Grand Council members from schools across Newport. During the session, we reflected on the events held so far and shared ideas about how they could be improved.
We explained that we’ve really enjoyed taking part in all the activities, but suggested it would be great if more children from Mount Pleasant could be involved, as we’ve noticed that some schools have more representatives than us.
The council also asked what we’ve gained from these events. We were delighted to report that one of our suggestions – building a new bike shelter to support the environment – is actually going ahead here at Mount Pleasant!
There are also other exciting projects in the pipeline, which we’ve already discussed with Mrs Black and Ms Rutledge. We hope these will bring benefits to the whole school community.
On Thursday, our Year 6 Criw Cymraeg organised a very special event – a visit from Seren a Sbarc, the official mascots of the Welsh Language Charter.
The morning began with an assembly led by our Dreigiau Iaith (Criw Cymraeg leaders), who gave Seren a Sbarc a croeso gynnes. The whole school joined in singing Aderyn Melyn, while Seren and Sbarc danced along, much to everyone’s delight.
Afterwards, the Dreigiau Iaith accompanied Seren and Sbarc around the school, visiting every class from Nursery to Year 6. Pupils proudly shared their own mini Seren a Sbarc mascot diaries, filled with pictures and stories of the mascots’ weekend adventures with children from each class.
It was a bore bendigedig, full of singing, laughter, and celebration of the Welsh language. We hope all our pupils enjoyed meeting Seren and Sbarc – we certainly loved having them in school!
Cardiff Castle Trip Y4
On Friday 21st November, Year 4 enjoyed an exciting visit to Cardiff Castle. The highlight of the day was taking part in the Welsh Legends Workshop, which brought their classroom learning to life in a fun and interactive way. The children were fascinated by the rich history of the castle and loved exploring its impressive grounds. It was a fantastic opportunity to deepen their understanding of Welsh culture and legends, and everyone returned full of enthusiasm and new knowledge.

Chartwells School Menu Update
We’re pleased to continue working with Chartwells to provide nutritious, balanced meals for our pupils each day. You can view the menu for the second half of the Autumn term by clicking the link below;
Please remember to book your child’s meals via ParentPay before they return to school. Week commencing 24.11.2025 will be Week 3.
A message from Chartwells;
The changes to the school meals menu, is part of our effort to align with the consultation of the Healthy Eating in Schools Regulations 2013, which is aimed at improving the nutritional quality of food served in Welsh schools. These guidelines encourage more fruit and vegetables, less sugars and salts and a reduction in processed foods, particularly processed meats and cheeses when used as the primary source of protein. It is expected that processed food should not be used in school meals more than twice a week.
Our priority remains the wellbeing of our pupils, and we are working hard to ensure that the new menu continues to offer a variety of tasty, balanced, and nutritious options. We’re also committed to listening to feedback and reviewing the menus where possible but continuing to be compliant with the Healthy Eating in Schools Regulations 2013.
If your child has an Additional Learning Need (ALN), reasonable adjustments can be made to support their access to school meals. Further information on how to arrange this support is available by contacting your school directly.

Breakfast Club
To ensure the safety and wellbeing of all pupils, we kindly remind parents and guardians that Breakfast Club admission runs strictly between 8:20 and 8:30am. For safeguarding reasons, children arriving after 8:30am will not be admitted. It is essential that pupils don't access the school site until 8.15am as nobody is available to supervise children on the yard at this time.
It is essential that every child is personally handed over to a member of the Breakfast Club team at the main doors. Please do not leave the premises until this handover has been completed. These procedures are in place to protect all children. If you miss the deadline for entry you will need to wait with your child and ensure they enter school through their allocated class entrance. Thank you for your cooperation and continued support.
Brawddegau Bendigedig Bryn Hyfryd
We are so excited!! Thanks to all the fabulous support we had selling our Welsh Cakes, we raised over £200 to buy a brand new Graffiti Wall.
There will be a Graffiti wall theme each week which will inform the Brawddeg Bendigedig Bryn Hyfryd.
The first theme is: Anifeiliaid! Animals!
We'll want children from every class to get chatting and writing about their favourite animals, animals they may not like, and animals they have as pets. They could use sentences such as...
Fy hoff anifail ydy....achos
My favourite animal is....because
Mae .... 'da fi
I have a .....
Dwi ddim yn hoffi...achos
I don't like ....because
You could really help your children at home by looking up some Welsh vocabulary for animals that they like, dislike or own!
Blwyddyn 6 can't wait to see all the graffiti ffantasteg on the new Wal Graffiti!
Timber Trail Installation
Safety Reminder: To keep everyone safe, we kindly ask that pupils do not use the Timber Trail before or after school. The equipment must only be used under staff supervision during the school day. Thank you for helping us keep playtime safe and fun for all!
Safeguarding - Access and Egress to Y1
To help ensure a calm and safe end to the school day, we kindly ask Year 1 parents to collect their children from the top yard using the designated pathways. Please avoid walking around the pathway directly outside the Year 1 room, as this area becomes congested and can make it difficult for pupils to spot their grown-ups.
Your support helps us create a smoother, less stressful transition for our youngest learners. Thank you for helping us keep things running safely and smoothly!
Important Reminder regarding 'No Nuts in School'
We kindly remind all parents and carers that our school is a nut-free zone. This means that nuts and nut-based products must not be brought in snacks or packed lunches. Several of our students have severe nut allergies, and even trace amounts can trigger life-threatening reactions. These allergies are not just uncomfortable, they can be extremely dangerous, requiring immediate medical attention. By keeping nuts out of school, we’re helping to create a safe and inclusive environment for every child. Thank you for your continued support and vigilance in protecting our students’ health.
School Attendance
Remember not to take holidays in term time. Poor attendance can significantly impact on the well-being and academic attainment of your child. Our attendance target is 96.% for the whole school. Please see chart which demonstrates the effects of good and poor attendance. Our current whole school attendance is 96.23%. If your child is unwell please contact the school office.
