Happy Half Term to our MPPS Family
Wishing you all a very happy half term with your families and friends. Thank you to all our parents and carers who have attended Parent Consultations and worked with us in collaboration to provide the best education for our pupils. I hope you get some time to enjoy the half term period with your children, family and friends. We look forward to seeing the Peg Dolls returning to school looking very different to when they left.
Please be reminded we return to school on Monday 3rd March, we hope to see all our pupils wearing traditional Welsh costumes in preparation for Wythnos Cymraeg!
Whole School Readathon Thursday 6th March (World Book Day)
On Thursday 6th March we are asking children to bring their favourite book to school to take part in a sponsored readathon, pupils will get the opportunity to read to children across the school and celebrate their favourite story/text. If your child is bilingual and would like to bring a book in their home language, that will be wonderful. Money raised will go towards purchasing much needed home reading books that are current and up to date. I'm sure you'll all agree, they need an update!
Every child will be taking home a sponsor form on Thursday 20th February 2025. We look forward to this exciting event and to renewing our Home Reading books. Any sponsor money to be returned by Tuesday 11th March. Your support will be greatly appreciated.
Girls Football Festival
A huge congratulations to our Year 5/6 Girls Football Squad, who took part in the Newport Spring Tournament on Wednesday. They represented MPPS with determination, drive and a desire to win and all with huge smiles on their faces!
Thank you to Miss Durston and Miss Jenkins for coaching and supporting the team! We can't wait for the Summer Tournament!
Year 2 Trip to Cardiff Museum
Tuesday saw Year 2 head off to Cardiff Museum as part of their Dinosaur topic. They had a fabulous day looking at the fossils first hand. It was amazing to see how well preserved the prehistoric remains are and to get a better understanding of how massive the dinosaurs actually were. There were also some intricately detailed plant fossils and a huge collection of minerals and crystals that the children were in awe of. It was a great opportunity for the children to purchase a souvenir from the shop, handling 'real' money and to work out if they can actually afford to buy what they see.
A valuable experience all round and the children represented the school wonderfully.
School Council visit to Ysgol Gyfun Gwent Is Coed
Year 6 representatives attended the Spring Grand Council session this week. Deacon and Nyla-May took part in 3 workshops with a focus on GEMS, attendance and Newport Live. They did a great job sharing what works well at our school and in our local area, and what improvements could be made to make it even better. Councillor Batrouni also took part in a question and answer session. It was interesting to hear about the new leisure centre being built in Newport City Centre.
Eisteddfod Prosiect Cartref / Home Eisteddfod Project
The whole school Eisteddfod project is to make a 'Welsh' peg doll. You might want to transform the peg into a famous Welsh person, or maybe they'd rather transform it into a daffodil, leek or sheep. We're looking for imagination and creativity! Your child has previously brought home a Welsh peg doll with a small white label. Remember to write your child's name and class on one side of the label, and who or what they have transformed the peg into on the other side. Good luck everyone! Please return your peg creation by Monday 3rd March 2025. Diolch!
