Election of Parent Governor
We’re inviting nominations for a new Parent Governor to join our Governing Body. Governors play a vital role in shaping the direction of the school, from curriculum and behaviour standards to staffing and budgeting. Meetings are held once a term, usually after school or in the evening, and full training is provided free of charge.
If you’re a parent or legal guardian of a pupil at the school and would like to stand for election, please complete the nomination form and return it by the deadline. If more nominations are received than vacancies, a ballot will be held.
We’d love to see more parents involved, your voice matters!
Your child will be coming home with an envelope and two Parent Governor Nomination forms. If you are interested in this role please return your form by Monday 6th October 12.00 noon in the envelope provided.

Welly Wang Fundraiser 8th October
Please help us to raise funds for school by sponsoring our pupils to take part in the Autumn Welly-Wang throwing competition. How far can each child wang their welly? All money raised will go towards purchasing sports and play equipment.
Please return sponsor money and forms by Monday 13th October 2025. Thank you and good luck with your Welly Wanging!
All pupils will be brining home a sponsored welly-wang form next week.
Flu Vaccination
The School Nursing Service will visit the school to offer pupils a nasal flu spray vaccine on 08/10/2025 for pupils in Reception to Y6.
The NHS recommends that your child has a flu vaccination every year.
It’s very important to protect your child from flu to make sure they stay as healthy as possible. The best flu vaccine for most children is a nasal spray. This is the vaccine that will be given on the day.
The online consent form and additional information can be found here: E- Consent Form Link
To help make sure the vaccine is suitable for your child, and they don’t miss out, please take time to read the information and follow the link to complete the electronic consent form as soon as possible, before the planned vaccination date.
The nose spray flu vaccine that contains porcine gelatine is the best protection against flu for children. If you want to have your child protected against Flu, but you do not want them to have the nose spray, you can request the gelatine free injection instead on the consent form and you will be invited to a clinic. If your child attends a NEWPORT SECONDARY SCHOOL they will receive their vaccine in school.
Should you have any difficulties accessing the above link, please contact 01633 431685 for further support.

Brawddegau Bendigedig Bryn Hyfryd
This week's brawddeg bendigedig can be used to check in with your friends and family to see how they're feeling:
Sut wyt ti heddiw?
How are you today?
There are various responses that the children learn from nursery onwards eg
Dwi'n hapus / Dwi'n trist / Dwi wedi blino / Dwi'n bendigedig
I'm happy / I'm sad / I'm tired / I'm wonderful
Further up the school we add the word 'feeling' eg
Sut wyt ti'n teimlo heddiw?
How are you feeling today?
and the reply would also have the additional word 'feeling' with a short explanation perhaps of why they are feeling this way eg
Dwi'n teimlo'n hapus achos dwi'n hoffi Dydd Gwener!
I'm feeling happy because I like Friday!
Don't forget to use this phrase if you want to earn yourself a Welsh raffle ticket and the chance of winning 25 dojos from our Dreigiau Iaith and Peer Mediators!
The Parent Teacher Association AGM Tuesday 16th September
A huge thank you to everyone who attended our recent PTA AGM, we were delighted with the fantastic turnout and the enthusiasm in the room and on Zoom! Minutes from the meeting will be available soon on our school website, so do keep an eye out.
We’re also excited to share that our brand-new trim trail will be installed at the end of September, thanks to the incredible fundraising efforts of the PTA. This will be a wonderful addition to our outdoor space and a real benefit to all our pupils.
The PTA plays a vital role in enriching school life, and we’d love to welcome more parents and carers to get involved. Whether you can spare a little time or a lot, your support makes a real difference.
Thank you to our PTA for your dedication, energy and commitment to making Mount Pleasant Primary School the best it can be!
GRAND COUNCILLORS Written by Layla and Kathryn
This week we would like to let you know about our Prefects.
The prefects will be watching as you walk in to the hall and will write your name on a raffle ticket. You can also get one by sitting nicely and walking sensibly down the corridors then, on Friday, they will pull out a raffle ticket that might have your name on it, then you will win a prize. Diolch.
Lost Property
As the new term gets underway, our lost property basket is already filling up with jumpers, coats, water bottles and other belongings. To help us return items to their rightful owners, please ensure that all clothing and personal items are clearly labelled with your child’s name—a simple name tag or permanent marker can make a big difference.
If your child is missing anything, please encourage them to check the lost property basket located in the Year 2 and Year 3 cloakroom area.
⚠️ Important: Any unclaimed items remaining in lost property after Friday 26th September will be recycled or donated. We kindly ask all families to check before this date to avoid disappointment.
Thank you for your support in keeping our school tidy and helping pupils stay reunited with their belongings!
Our School Rules
We have been learning about our school Rights, Rules, Rewards and Consequences this week.
Please take some time to talk to your child/children about these. Thank you.
Important Reminder regarding 'No Nuts in School'
We kindly remind all parents and carers that our school is a nut-free zone. This means that nuts and nut-based products must not be brought in snacks or packed lunches. Several of our students have severe nut allergies, and even trace amounts can trigger life-threatening reactions. These allergies are not just uncomfortable, they can be extremely dangerous, requiring immediate medical attention. By keeping nuts out of school, we’re helping to create a safe and inclusive environment for every child. Thank you for your continued support and vigilance in protecting our students’ health.
