A Message from Newport City Council regarding acceptable behaviour on school site
Newport City Council will not tolerate violent, aggressive, abusive or threatening behaviour from members of the public. If this happens you will be asked to leave the building, the police may be called and you may leave yourself open to prosecution.
Any such behaviour will be recorded and shared across council departments. This may lead to the withdrawal of council services.
Bike Shelter update
It’s been wonderful to see how well pupils are using our new bike shelter, they’ve been storing their bikes sensibly, it’s great to see so many pupils are choosing active travel to school.
To keep everyone safe, we kindly remind families that bikes and scooters must not be ridden on the school site. Please dismount at the school gate and walk your bike to the shelter.
Thank you for your support in helping us keep our school a safe and welcoming place for all.
Toys in School
Parents are kindly asked to ensure that pupils do not bring toys into school, as they can cause unnecessary distractions during learning time, lead to disagreements or upset if items are lost or damaged,and make it harder for children to stay focused on classroom activities. Keeping personal toys at home helps us maintain a calm, fair, and safe environment for all pupils. Thank you for your support in helping us prioritise learning and wellbeing.
🏊 Mount Pleasant Swim Squad Make a Splash at Newport Gala!

On Tuesday 16th June, the Mount Pleasant Swim Squad headed off to the Newport Primary Schools Swimming Gala at Newport Live Sports Centre. We were all feeling a bit nervous — butterflies everywhere — but being in Heat 2 turned out to be a bonus because we got to watch the first swimmers and pick up some top techniques before it was our turn.
We each chose our strongest strokes and took part in lots of different relay races. Our first event was a front crawl/backstroke relay, and we were thrilled to come second against some really tough teams. It was the perfect confidence boost for the rest of the day.
And then things got even better… we came FIRST in five more races! One of those wins was in the biggest race of the whole gala — The Canon. Everyone in our squad took part, and it included parts of all the earlier races, so it felt amazing to bring home the win together.
It was a brilliant day from start to finish. Our teachers were so proud of how we behaved, how hard we tried in every single race, and how well we worked as a team. We can’t wait for the next gala!
Year 3 Trip to Caerleon Roman Museum
Our Year 3 pupils had a spectacular day out recently when they visited the National Roman Legion Museum in Caerleon, bringing their current theme; The Romans, to life!
The children were absolute credits to MPPS throughout the trip, acting as excellent role models and listening intently to the museum experts' presentations. The absolute highlight of the day was when our pupils got to take part in a real Roman battle! Dressed in traditional Roman tunics, they successfully formed battle lines using replica swords and large shields to practice ancient army formations.
Da iawn, Year 3! We are incredibly proud of your fantastic behaviour and enthusiastic learning. Keep up the brilliant work!
PTA Father's Day Stalls
A huge thank you to our wonderful PTA for organising the Decorate a Doughnut activity for our pupils. It was such a thoughtful and creative event, the children had an amazing time designing and decorating their boxes and doughnuts. The activity encouraged pupils to use their creativity, fine‑motor skills and independence, all while having fun and working together in a relaxed, joyful atmosphere.
We are incredibly grateful for the PTA’s hard work, organisation and commitment to making these experiences special for our pupils. Activities like this bring so much excitement to the school day and create memories the children truly treasure.
We hope all our families have a wonderful Father’s Day and enjoy the celebrations ahead.

We are delighted to invite our Mount Pleasant community to join us for Sports Day 2026. Our pupils have been practising with great enthusiasm, we look forward to celebrating their effort, teamwork and sporting spirit together.

We appreciate your understanding and flexibility. We look forward to welcoming you on the new dates to celebrate a fun and active Sports Day together.
To help the day run smoothly and safely, we kindly ask all families to enter the school site through the main entrance only. For safeguarding reasons, all other gates will remain locked until the end of the school day, only the main gates will be used for entry and exit during the event.
Pupils with sports days during the am session will be expected to attend school all day (not applicable to Nursery). At the end of the pm Sports Day session, pupils will return to their classrooms before being released. Please wait on the yard closest to your child’s classroom so staff can see you clearly before dismissal. We also ask that parents do not call pupils over during the event, as this helps us keep all children safe and accounted for.
Please note that if the weather is poor, we may need to rearrange at short notice.
Help us by making sure your child has a water bottle, sunhat and that sun cream is applied before coming to school. See information on DOJO regarding house colour T-shirts required for your child.
We look forward to welcoming you and celebrating a joyful, active week with our school community.

A polite reminder about parking
To help us keep all pupils safe, we kindly ask parents and carers not to park on the school grounds at any time. For health and safety reasons, the school gates must remain locked at all times, vehicles on site make this difficult to manage safely. This includes after school hours when extra curricular clubs are taking place and whilst Stay and Play are using the facilities.
Please also ensure that no cars are parked in front of the school gates, as this blocks access for emergency vehicles and prevents staff from opening and closing the gates when needed.

Internet Safety Workshops
A message from PCSO Alex Donne
There are 4 separate workshops on Roblox, Fortnite, EA FC26 and Minecraft that our parents can access. These workshops equip parents, carers, and others supporting young people with the confidence and knowledge to discuss a wide range of digital activities within these games.
This series takes a deep dive into specific games in detail, designed to look at the key features of the game, appeal to young people, in-game spending and how to utilise the parental settings within some of the most popular games.
These workshops are run by a Charity called YGAM and are really informative and supportive of everyone who registers and takes part in the sessions. Click on the link below to find out more.
This training should be very interesting for parents to get involved in and hopefully help at home with discussions around certain games that our pupils play.

🎉 Criw Cymraeg Celebrate Amazing News!
Criw Cymraeg had the best news this week — Mount Pleasant has officially been awarded the Cymraeg Campus Arian Award! We’ve all worked so hard over the past few years to keep improving our Welsh, both in how we speak it and how we celebrate being Welsh, so this feels extra special.
On Monday, Mrs Rhian Wooley from LAISIS visited our school to carry out the verification process. There was a huge 27‑page list of requirements… and we absolutely smashed every single one! Then Criw Cymraeg led an amazing assembly all about Syr Harri Morgan, mor leidr enwog o Gasnewydd. Mrs Wooley even said it was the best assembly she had ever seen.
Afterwards, some members of Criw Cymraeg were chosen to chat with Mrs Wooley and answer her questions about how they help lead Welsh across the school. They spoke about all the brilliant events they’ve organised over the years — from Santes Dwynwen Welsh cakes to the Eisteddfod, Jambori and more. She was blown away by their enthusiasm, their knowledge and their fantastic use of the Welsh language.
When the verification was complete, Mrs Wooley proudly presented us with our Cymraeg Campus Arian certificate. And the best part? We’re already well on our way to achieving Aur — the Gold Award!

Managing Medication in School
In line with our Managing Medicines Policy, the school cannot give pupils any non–life‑saving medication. These medicines must be given by parents or carers at home, alternatively you can contact the school office to arrange a time to come in and give the medication yourself.
For safeguarding reasons, no medication should be put in a pupil’s bag or lunchbox.
Any prescribed long term life-saving medication must be handed straight to the school office by an adult, along with the consent and medical information forms and signed off by the Headteacher.
We ask all parents who have children with asthma to make sure their child has an in date inhaler in school.
Thank you for helping us keep all pupils safe.
Breakfast Club
To ensure the safety and wellbeing of all pupils, we kindly remind parents and guardians that Breakfast Club admission runs strictly between 8:20 and 8:30am. For safeguarding reasons, children arriving after 8:30am will not be admitted. It is essential that pupils don't access the school site until 8.15am as nobody is available to supervise children on the yard at this time.
It is essential that every child is personally handed over to a member of the Breakfast Club team at the main doors. Please do not leave the premises until this handover has been completed. These procedures are in place to protect all children. If you miss the deadline for entry you will need to wait with your child and ensure they enter school through their allocated class entrance. Thank you for your cooperation and continued support.
Timber Trail Installation
Safety Reminder: To keep everyone safe, we kindly ask that pupils do not use the Timber Trail before or after school. The equipment must only be used under staff supervision during the school day. Thank you for helping us keep playtime safe and fun for all!
Important Reminder regarding 'No Nuts in School'
We kindly remind all parents and carers that our school is a nut-free zone. This means that nuts and nut-based products must not be brought in snacks or packed lunches. Several of our students have severe nut allergies, and even trace amounts can trigger life-threatening reactions. These allergies are not just uncomfortable, they can be extremely dangerous, requiring immediate medical attention. By keeping nuts out of school, we’re helping to create a safe and inclusive environment for every child. Thank you for your continued support and vigilance in protecting our students’ health.
School Attendance
Remember not to take holidays in term time. Poor attendance can significantly impact on the well-being and academic attainment of your child. Our attendance target is 96.% for the whole school. Please see chart which demonstrates the effects of good and poor attendance. Our current whole school attendance is 95.8%. If your child is unwell please contact the school office.
The School Essentials Grant
The school essentials grant, funded by the Welsh Government funds free school meals and equipment for children with families on low incomes. All primary school pupils in Newport receive free school meals through the Universal Free School meals.
If your child is in primary school and receiving universal free school meals and you have a low household income (click on the link to see if you are eligible https://www.newport.gov.uk/schools-and-learning/school-meals/free-school-meals ), you should still complete an application form for free school meals.
You may be entitled to further support and your school may also receive additional funding. To receive the school essentials grant support, you have to apply. https://www.newport.gov.uk/schools-and-learning/educational-grants
The grant can help fund:
school uniform (including coats and shoes)
school sports kit
uniform for activities such as, scouts; guides; cadets; sports; performing arts
school equipment (school bags and stationery)
laptops or tablets
