Thank you to our pupils, parents, and staff for helping keep Mount Pleasant Primary School a happy, safe, and welcoming place for everyone. Please remember that Mount Pleasant Primary School will not tolerate any threatening, abusive, or violent behaviour on our site. Thank you for treating our entire school community with kindness and respect.

On Tuesday afternoon, both Year 6 classes took part in an exciting and informative Crucial Crew experience. We visited seven different stations, each focusing on an important aspect of staying safe.
At the railway safety station, we learned how to stay safe around train tracks and stations. We were surprised to discover that electricity from the tracks can jump up to three metres. Another station taught us about gas safety and the dangers of carbon monoxide, highlighting why it is so important to have working carbon monoxide alarms at home.
One interactive activity challenged us to spot potential hazards on a large safety poster, identifying a range of dangerous situations, including someone attempting to climb a pylon. At the St John Ambulance station, we had the opportunity to practise CPR on training dummies and learned valuable life-saving skills.
The Fire Service station provided a fun way to learn about fire safety through a game of snakes and ladders, where teams answered safety-related questions. We also explored the topic of anti-social behaviour and learned about Fearless, a service that allows young people to report concerns anonymously.
To round off the day, we visited a shop showcasing items that help raise funds for this excellent educational experience.
We all know how to stay safe now when we're out and about with our friends and without our parents to look after us now!
Parent Consultations
Consultations for the Autumn term will take place on Wednesday 21st October and Thursday 22nd October from 3.20pm - 6.00pm. Please be reminded that these consultations are face to face in the school hall. A link via Teachers to Parents went out on Tuesday 6th October at 4.00pm for parents to book appointments. If you have any problems contact the school office.
Due to unforeseen circumstances Mrs Fells Y4 held her consultations on Wednesday 7th October and Thursday 8th October . Thank you to those parents who attended consultations this week.
Grand Council Autumn Term 2026
This week, Rory and Mia from Year 5 joined Mrs Black at The Grand Council Autumn Event. Linked to citizenship, the pupils took part in four exciting workshops focused on becoming ethically informed and empathetic learners. They worked as a team to complete a LEGO challenge, explored how to respond in an emergency, learned about dementia awareness and how to help promote anti-racism. It was a fun-filled day, and Rory and Mia did a fantastic job representing our school. Da iawn both!
PTA Scarecrow Trail - Monday 19th October
The excitement is building for our Scarecrow Trail this Monday, 19th October! We want to send a warm thank you to all the families who have already brought in their £2.00. If you haven't paid yet, please bring any remaining money into school on Monday morning. Thank you all for your fantastic support!
Lost Property
Has your child lost something? We started Autumn term with a blissfully empty lost property basket, but we’re now accidentally hosting hundreds of pounds worth of unclaimed fleeces, cardigans, and jumpers. To make rescue missions easy, the basket has been moved to the Reception entrance. Please drop by and reclaim your missing treasures before the pile takes over!
Most items in this basket are not labelled! Please make sure your child's clothes are clearly labelled so they can be returned to pupils easily.
Poppy Day Merchandise
Starting Monday 19th October, our Year 6 pupils will be visiting classes across the school to sell official Remembrance items, including traditional poppies, badges, wristbands, and other commemorative merchandise. This is in aid of the Royal British Legion. All items will be available for a voluntary donation, with every penny raised helping to support serving personnel, veterans, and their families. If your child would like to purchase an item and show their support for Remembrance Day, please send them in with a small cash donation. Thank you for your generosity!
School Attendance
Remember not to take holidays in term time. Poor attendance can significantly impact on the well-being and academic attainment of your child. Our attendance target is 96% for the whole school. Please see chart which demonstrates the effects of good and poor attendance. Our current whole school attendance is 97.4%. If your child is unwell please contact the school office.
Class Dojo
We use Class Dojo in order to communicate learning taking place in class, with parents. Although this features a messaging facility, this is not monitored by staff, so please use the normal channels of communication to speak with staff e.g. email or telephone the school office (Mountpleasant.primary@newportschools.wales or TEL: 01633 839912).
Class Dojo does however enable us to share some of the wonderful learning your child experiences with us and with you at home. We see this as your ‘window’ into the classroom, giving an opportunity to see what exciting things are taking place in class. Thank you
Our School Rules
We have been learning about our school Rights, Rules, Rewards and Consequences this week.
Please take some time to talk to your child/children about these. Thank you.
Important Reminder regarding 'No Nuts in School'
We kindly remind all parents and carers that our school is a nut-free zone. This means that nuts and nut-based products must not be brought in snacks or packed lunches. Several of our students have severe nut allergies, and even trace amounts can trigger life-threatening reactions. These allergies are not just uncomfortable, they can be extremely dangerous, requiring immediate medical attention. By keeping nuts out of school, we’re helping to create a safe and inclusive environment for every child. Thank you for your continued support and vigilance in protecting our students’ health.
Parent Pay
We ask that all parents book their child's meals on a Sunday prior to pupils returning to school. If you have any problems accessing parent pay please contact the school office. Click on the link below to access the link to Chartwells Menu
Please note; week commencing 19.10.2026 will be Week 1.

Which means: Are you OK?
When someone asks you "Wyt ti'n iawn?", you can answer in different ways depending on how you're feeling.
✅ If you're feeling happy and well, you could say:
"Ydw, dw i'n iawn, diolch."
Yes, I'm OK, thank you.
✅ If you're not feeling very well or you're feeling upset, you could say:
"Nag ydw. Dw i ddim yn iawn."
No, I'm not OK.
If you see someone looking sad at playtime.
If a friend has hurt themselves.
If someone is sitting on their own.
If a classmate seems worried about their work.
If someone has had a disagreement with a friend.
If a friend hasn't seemed like themselves today.
By asking "Wyt ti'n iawn?", you're showing that you care about others and are being a good friend.
"Beth sy'n bod?"
What's wrong?
"Ga i helpu?"
Can I help?
"Wyt ti eisiau chwarae?"
Do you want to play?
"Mae'n iawn. Dw i yma i helpu."
It's OK. I'm here to help.
Can you use "Wyt ti'n iawn?" at least three times this week yn yr ysgol?
Any ATHRAWON or CRIW CYMRAEG that hear you using the phrase will give you 5 dojo!
Cofia! Small Welsh phrases can make a big difference and help everyone feel included and cared for.
Diolch yn fawr a phob lwc!
Managing Medication in School
In line with our Managing Medicines Policy, the school cannot give pupils any non–life‑saving medication. These medicines must be given by parents or carers at home, alternatively you can contact the school office to arrange a time to come in and give the medication yourself.
For safeguarding reasons, no medication should be put in a pupil’s bag or lunchbox.
Any prescribed long term life-saving medication must be handed straight to the school office by an adult, along with the consent and medical information forms and signed off by the Headteacher.
We ask all parents who have children with asthma to make sure their child has an in date inhaler in school.
Thank you for helping us keep all pupils safe.
Donations Wanted!
The PTA is funding two new sets of outdoors blocks for the infants.
We would like to provide some Lego bricks for our juniors to get creative with.
Do you have any spare bricks you’d be willing to donate? If so, please drop into the school office.
