Food Bank Fun run
A heartfelt thank you to all pupils, parents and carers who supported our charity fun run, organised in collaboration with Year 12 student George Chorley from Bassaleg School. Your generosity and community spirit helped make this event a wonderful success.
Together, we collected a fantastic range of food donations, all of which are now on their way to Risca Food Bank, supporting families in need within our local area.
It was inspiring to see pupils running with purpose and smiles, knowing they were making a difference. Your involvement through sponsoring and donating is deeply appreciated.
Diolch yn fawr George Chorley for making it such a meaningful and memorable event!
Rogerstone Community Council Award Ceremony
Mount Pleasant Primary School and the Bassaleg Cluster have been delighted to host the Rogerstone Community Council Award Ceremony here at MPPS.
George Quatermass 5M (winning the top prize and shield for the school), Lucie Rodgers 5M and George Browning 6J have all won awards from Rogerstone Community Council by taking part in the annual schools competition. See details below;
One hundred years ago in 1925, John Logie Baird gave the first public demonstration of televised silhouette images in motion at Selfridges Department Store in London. Seventy years ago, in 1955 British TV saw its first television advert.
The questions that were asked are below:
1. What is your favourite television programme and why?
2. In what way do you think TV programmes can make the world a kinder and happier place?
3. In 1955 the first advertisement appeared on British TV for: Gibbs SR toothpaste; what would you like to make an advert about and what would it look like?
The winner from each school has received a prize of £30.00 with the overall winner receiving a prize of £50.
We were thrilled to have Ruth Jones MP distribute the awards to the winners.
Thank you to Stephen Bowen for organising such a wonderful competition.
5M Trip to the Welfare Grounds
On Thursday Year 5 visited the Welfare Ground as part of their ‘Talking Trees’ project. In school, they researched the vital role trees play in our ecosystem and daily lives, then presented their findings creatively on cardboard. Each display was brought to life with eyes and twig ‘hands’, and carefully placed on nine different trees around the Welfare Ground to share their knowledge with the local community. If you're heading that way in the coming weeks, see if you can spot all nine trees—and discover just how incredible trees really are!
Booknic
Thank you so much for attending our annual Booknic today. It was heart warming to see so many families enjoying the sunshine, celebrating pupils’ achievements and taking the time to reflect on their learning journeys together.
Your enthusiasm, kind messages and thoughtful participation made the event truly special. We are especially grateful for your support in helping us maintain a safe and happy environment throughout the afternoon.
Seeing pupils share their favourite pieces of work with pride and watching families connect over stories, laughter and picnic snacks was a wonderful reminder of the strength of our school community.
Diolch yn fawr for helping us make memories we’ll treasure!

School Attendance
Remember not to take holidays in term time. Poor attendance can significantly impact on the well-being and academic attainment of your child. Our attendance target is 96% for the whole school. Please see chart which demonstrates the effects of good and poor attendance. Our current whole school attendance is 94.8%. If your child is unwell please contact the school office.
Sun Protection
Now the Summer Term has started, I wanted to remind you of the importance of pupils wearing sunscreen to school. The sun's rays are particularly strong over the summer period and they can damage children's skin. Your child's health and well-being are very important to us. Please apply sunscreen (at least SPF 30) and 4 or 5 stars sunscreen in the Summer months. Encourage your child to wear a wide brimmed bucket hat or legionnaire style hat. School will continue to monitor time spent learning in the outdoors and encourage use of shady areas where possible. You can find out more information about keeping safe in the sun at www.cancerresearchuk.org .
Your support is very important. You can help us by:
Talking to your child about the importance of sun protection at home.
Sending your child to school with a wide-brimmed hat.
Providing plenty of water in a clearly labelled water bottle.
Thank you!
