Welly Wang
A huge thank you to all our wonderful pupils and families for getting behind our Autumn Welly-Wang throwing event! Your enthusiasm and generous sponsorships have helped us raise valuable funds towards new sports and play equipment for the school.
It was fantastic to see everyone having fun and giving it their best shot—how far those wellies flew! Please remember to return any remaining sponsor forms and money by Monday 13th October 2025. Look out on the newsletter next week to find out how much we have raised!
Your support makes a real difference. Thank you for helping us keep active play alive and kicking at Mount Pleasant!
Timber Trail Installation
Safety Reminder: To keep everyone safe, we kindly ask that pupils do not use the Timber Trail before or after school. The equipment must only be used under staff supervision during the school day. Thank you for helping us keep playtime safe and fun for all!
Harvest Festival
Mount Pleasant celebrated Harvest with a special assembly led by our fantastic Year 4 pupils, featuring songs and poetry from Reception to Year 6. Nursery enjoyed harvest-themed activities throughout the week, bringing seasonal joy to our youngest learners.
Although we weren’t able to invite parents, we hope you have seen plenty of lovely photos on Dojo!
Harvest Donations
We collected food and toiletries for Risca Food Bank, with generous contributions brought in from home. Our pupils proudly created a wonderful Harvest display for everyone to see. A great big thank you to Ffion Jones for bringing in the Harvest loaf made by her Grandmother.
Thank you for your incredible support, every donation was greatly appreciated and will make a real difference!
Grand Council Visit written by George Sisk and Sophie Benning
Hello from Sophie and George! On Tuesday, 7th October, we had the honour of representing Mount Pleasant Primary as Grand Councillors at a special event hosted by John Frost School.
Our day began with an engaging talk on renewable energy and safer travel options—topics that really got us thinking about the future. After that, we took part in a creative workshop where we transformed old school jumpers into fabulous cushions. You can see our handiwork proudly displayed in the school foyer! We’re excited to teach the rest of the school how to make their own memory cushions to celebrate their time at Mount Pleasant.
Next up was a cooking session with Chartwells, where we whipped up a delicious tomato sauce using a variety of vegetables, including sweet potato and courgettes. Yum!
In the afternoon, we got to sit inside an electric car—such a cool experience! We also loved the Daily Mile workshop, which got everyone moving and smiling. We wrapped up the day with a session on saving energy at school. One surprising fact? Teachers making tea and coffee use a LOT of energy… we’ll definitely be passing that tip along!
A huge thank you to Mrs Black for taking us—it was a fantastic day full of learning, fun, and inspiration!
Y1 and Y2 Violin Project
Thank you to all parents who have already made a contribution via ParentPay towards our exciting violin project. Your generosity helps us bring creative, enriching experiences to our pupils and we truly appreciate your support in making music a joyful part of their learning journey!
Show Racism the Red Card
(Please note Y6 need to wear uniform on this date due to attending the Crucial Crew Trip.)
On Thursday 17th October, pupils and staff at Mount Pleasant Primary School are invited to wear red to show their support for Show Racism the Red Card, the UK’s leading anti-racism education charity. By wearing red, we’re standing together to say that racism has no place in our school, our community, or our world. It’s a simple but powerful way to raise awareness, promote respect, and celebrate diversity. Let’s turn our school red for a brilliant cause!
If you would like to donate funds towards the cause please follow the instructions below.
Autumn Term Parent Consultations
We’re looking forward to welcoming parents to our Autumn Term Parent Consultations on Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd October. These meetings are a valuable opportunity to discuss your child’s progress, well-being and learning so far this year.
Each appointment will last 10 minutes, and we kindly ask all parents to stick to their allocated time to help the schedule run smoothly for everyone.
A booking link was sent out on Tuesday 6th October via Teachers2Parents. Any problems with booking, please contact the school office. We look forward to seeing you!
Shwmae Day is coming! Next Wednesday, 15th October, we’ll be celebrating Shwmae Day—a special occasion that encourages everyone to share and enjoy the Welsh language, whether at school, in the community, or with friends and family. The first Shwmae Day took place in 2013, and it’s grown in popularity every year!
At Mount Pleasant, we love getting involved. Each year, we mark the day with fun activities that help us all start conversations in Welsh using “Shw mae!” This year, our fantastic Criw Cymraeg will be making and selling mini packets of Welsh Cakes to help spread the Welsh spirit. Each packet will cost just £1, so don’t forget to bring your pound coins to enjoy a tasty treat and support a great cause.
All proceeds will go towards creating a Welsh graffiti wall—a space where pupils can express their thoughts and opinions in Welsh on everyday topics. It’s a brilliant way to celebrate our language and encourage creative writing across the school.
Diolch yn fawr!
Safeguarding - Access and Egress to Y1
To help ensure a calm and safe end to the school day, we kindly ask Year 1 parents to collect their children from the top yard using the designated pathways. Please avoid walking around the pathway directly outside the Year 1 room, as this area becomes congested and can make it difficult for pupils to spot their grown-ups.
Your support helps us create a smoother, less stressful transition for our youngest learners. Thank you for helping us keep things running safely and smoothly!

Brawddegau Bendigedig Bryn Hyfryd
This week's brawddeg bendigedig is used daily in several situations here at Bryn Hyfryd; first thing in the morning at Breakfast Club, by our canteen staff at dinner time, and frequently in the classroom by our teachers and support staff. The sentence is:
Beth wyt ti eisiau?
What do you want?
Though it comes across as quite direct in literal translation, it's really meant as a polite 'What would you like?'
The response would be:
Dwi eisiau....
I want ....
So for example in Breakfast Club they would ask:
Beth wyt ti eisiau i frecwast?
What do you want for breakfast?
Dwi eisiau tost gyda menyn os gwelwch yn dda!
I want toast with butter plesae!!
It would be great if this phrase could be used at home too to help familiarise the children with it and encourage them to become naturally bilingual!
Don't forget to use this phrase if you want to earn yourself a Welsh raffle ticket and the chance of winning 25 dojos from our Dreigiau Iaith and Peer Mediators!
Our School Rules
We have been learning about our school Rights, Rules, Rewards and Consequences this week.
Please take some time to talk to your child/children about these. Thank you.
Important Reminder regarding 'No Nuts in School'
We kindly remind all parents and carers that our school is a nut-free zone. This means that nuts and nut-based products must not be brought in snacks or packed lunches. Several of our students have severe nut allergies, and even trace amounts can trigger life-threatening reactions. These allergies are not just uncomfortable, they can be extremely dangerous, requiring immediate medical attention. By keeping nuts out of school, we’re helping to create a safe and inclusive environment for every child. Thank you for your continued support and vigilance in protecting our students’ health.
Parent Pay
We ask that all parents book their child's meals on a Sunday prior to pupils returning to school. If you have any problems accessing parent pay please contact the school office. Click on the link below to access the link to Chartwells Menu Chartwells Menu .
Please note; week commencing 13.10.25 will be Week 2.
School Attendance
Remember not to take holidays in term time. Poor attendance can significantly impact on the well-being and academic attainment of your child. Our attendance target is 96% for the whole school. Please see chart which demonstrates the effects of good and poor attendance. Our current whole school attendance is 96.69%. If your child is unwell please contact the school office.
