Behaviour on School Site
Thank you to our pupils, parents, and staff for helping keep Mount Pleasant Primary School a happy, safe, and welcoming place for everyone. Please remember that Mount Pleasant Primary School will not tolerate any threatening, abusive, or violent behaviour on our site. Thank you for treating our entire school community with kindness and respect.
Harvest Festival
A huge thank you to our Mount Pleasant community for making our Harvest Festival such an incredible success!
Our pupils from Reception to Year 6 blew us away with their fantastic assembly of songs and poetry, and Nursery had a wonderful week of harvest activities.
We are also deeply grateful for your overwhelming generosity toward Risca Food Bank. Your contributions of food and essential toiletries will make a real difference to local families.
Thank you for your continued kindness and support!
Parent Consultations
Consultations for the Autumn term will take place on Wednesday 21st October and Thursday 22nd October from 3.20pm - 6.00pm. Please be reminded that these consultations are face to face in the school hall. A link via Teachers to Parents went out on Tuesday 6th October at 4.00pm for parents to book appointments. If you have any problems contact the school office.
Due to unforeseen circumstances Mrs Fells Y4 held her consultations on Wednesday 7th October and Thursday 8th October . Thank you to those parents who attended consultations this week.
Swimming Lessons
Over the past three weeks, our Year 4 and Year 5 pupils have thrown themselves into their swimming lessons with fantastic energy and dedication. We are incredibly proud of the progress every child has made in mastering this vital, life-saving skill, from building their water confidence and stroke technique to boosting their physical fitness and stamina. Crucially, the children have also demonstrated brilliant independence, taking responsibility for their routines and managing themselves with great maturity. Swimming is an essential life skill, and watching our Y4 and Y5 classes grow in confidence, resilience and capability in the pool has been an absolute pleasure. Well done!
Congratulations Miss Hancock
We were delighted to welcome Miss Hancock back for a visit this week, along with her beautiful baby boy, Rory! Born on 16th August weighing 6lb 2oz. It was wonderful to see mother and baby looking so well, we are thrilled to officially welcome baby Rory into the MPPS family.
Class Dojo important information
We use Class Dojo in order to communicate learning taking place in class, with parents. Although this features a messaging facility, this is not monitored by staff, so please use the normal channels of communication to speak with staff e.g. email or telephone the school office (Mountpleasant.primary@newportschools.wales or TEL: 01633 839912).
Class Dojo does however enable us to share some of the wonderful learning your child experiences with us and with you at home. We see this as your ‘window’ into the classroom, giving an opportunity to see what exciting things are taking place in class. Thank you
Poppy Day Merchandise
Starting Monday 19th October, our Year 6 pupils will be visiting classes across the school to sell official Remembrance items, including traditional poppies, badges, wristbands, and other commemorative merchandise. This is in aid of the Royal British Legion. All items will be available for a voluntary donation, with every penny raised helping to support serving personnel, veterans, and their families. If your child would like to purchase an item and show their support for Remembrance Day, please send them in with a small cash donation. Thank you for your generosity!
Our School Rules
We have been learning about our school Rights, Rules, Rewards and Consequences this week.
Please take some time to talk to your child/children about these. Thank you.
Important Reminder regarding 'No Nuts in School'
We kindly remind all parents and carers that our school is a nut-free zone. This means that nuts and nut-based products must not be brought in snacks or packed lunches. Several of our students have severe nut allergies, and even trace amounts can trigger life-threatening reactions. These allergies are not just uncomfortable, they can be extremely dangerous, requiring immediate medical attention. By keeping nuts out of school, we’re helping to create a safe and inclusive environment for every child. Thank you for your continued support and vigilance in protecting our students’ health.

If you arrive after this time you will need to wait with your child prior to classroom doors opening at 8.50am for safeguarding reasons.

Which means: Are you OK?
When someone asks you "Wyt ti'n iawn?", you can answer in different ways depending on how you're feeling.
✅ If you're feeling happy and well, you could say:
"Ydw, dw i'n iawn, diolch."
Yes, I'm OK, thank you.
✅ If you're not feeling very well or you're feeling upset, you could say:
"Nag ydw. Dw i ddim yn iawn."
No, I'm not OK.
If you see someone looking sad at playtime.
If a friend has hurt themselves.
If someone is sitting on their own.
If a classmate seems worried about their work.
If someone has had a disagreement with a friend.
If a friend hasn't seemed like themselves today.
By asking "Wyt ti'n iawn?", you're showing that you care about others and are being a good friend.
"Beth sy'n bod?"
What's wrong?
"Ga i helpu?"
Can I help?
"Wyt ti eisiau chwarae?"
Do you want to play?
"Mae'n iawn. Dw i yma i helpu."
It's OK. I'm here to help.
Can you use "Wyt ti'n iawn?" at least three times this week yn yr ysgol?
Any ATHRAWON or CRIW CYMRAEG that hear you using the phrase will give you 5 dojo!
Cofia! Small Welsh phrases can make a big difference and help everyone feel included and cared for.
Diolch yn fawr a phob lwc!
Managing Medication in School
In line with our Managing Medicines Policy, the school cannot give pupils any non–life‑saving medication. These medicines must be given by parents or carers at home, alternatively you can contact the school office to arrange a time to come in and give the medication yourself.
For safeguarding reasons, no medication should be put in a pupil’s bag or lunchbox.
Any prescribed long term life-saving medication must be handed straight to the school office by an adult, along with the consent and medical information forms and signed off by the Headteacher.
We ask all parents who have children with asthma to make sure their child has an in date inhaler in school.
Thank you for helping us keep all pupils safe.
School Attendance
Remember not to take holidays in term time. Poor attendance can significantly impact on the well-being and academic attainment of your child. Our attendance target is 96% for the whole school. Please see chart which demonstrates the effects of good and poor attendance. Our current whole school attendance is 98.17%. If your child is unwell please contact the school office.
