Visit from Mike Phillips
What a wonderful treat we had this week! Mount Pleasant enjoyed a fantastic Q&A session with Mike Phillips in a whole school assembly. Year 3 to Year 6 were lucky enough to take part in a ball skills session, learning some top tips from Mike!
In addition to this, Year 6 were able to share their presentations and the work that has gone into their Principality Stadium and Six Nations Theme. Mike Phillips was very impressed indeed. He even spoke Welsh to us all in assembly!
Huge thanks to Nyla-May and the Power family for organising such a fantastic opportunity for our pupils. Mike Phillips has inspired us all! Diolch yn fawr iawn!

Victory in Europe 80
Huge thanks to our Chair of Governors for providing us with a VE 80 flag to fly high this week as we commemorate and celebrate the end of WW2. Pupils have been researching and finding out all about Victory in Europe day on 8th May. We had a lovely VE 80 Assembly which was an opportunity for us to come together to honour and pay tribute to the Second World War generation from across the UK and the Commonwealth. Here is a message from Trefor Bray, a dear friend of our school who fought in WW2, sadly he passed away last year, however, he left us with this message;
'I want to urge you to do all you can to avoid any future wars. It is important that we continue to remember and appreciate the sacrifices made by others so we are able to live in this country, in peace today.'
A Message from our ECO Committee
World Bee Day 20th May 2025
As Spring is here and the flowers are in bloom, along comes our busy, buzzy visitors the bees!
A few weeks ago our Eco Committee at MPPS shared an assembly with the school regarding the importance of pollinators for our ecosystem. We are going to ‘bee’ following this up with some activities at school to make sure we welcome bees and their pollinator friends.
Most people react with a swat and a scream when they see a bee but they are essential to the production of our lives. They help with plant reproduction, which is essential for food production and the overall biodiversity of ecosystems. Additionally, bees provide valuable products like honey and beeswax, and they help support the growth of plants that feed livestock.
Nature Club will be busy making sure our school grounds are bee friendly by planting pollinator friendly plants, we will be creating bee baths and bee hotels and we definitely won’t be using pesticides.
Maybe you can do a little, that will go a long way, at home by joining in with one or more of the above activities.
We will keep you posted with our activities.

Sun Protection
Now the Summer Term has started, I wanted to remind you of the importance of pupils wearing sunscreen to school. The sun's rays are particularly strong over the summer period and they can damage children's skin. Your child's health and well-being are very important to us. Please apply sunscreen (at least SPF 30) and 4 or 5 stars sunscreen in the Summer months. Encourage your child to wear a wide brimmed bucket hat or legionnaire style hat. School will continue to monitor time spent learning in the outdoors and encourage use of shady areas where possible. You can find out more information about keeping safe in the sun at www.cancerresearchuk.org .
Your support is very important. You can help us by:
Talking to your child about the importance of sun protection at home.
Sending your child to school with a wide-brimmed hat.
Providing plenty of water in a clearly labelled water bottle.
Thank you

Brawddegau Bendigedig Bryn Hyfryd
With all the beautiful weather we've had this week, the brawddeg bendigedig is ...
Sut mae't tywydd heddiw?
What's the weather today?
You can answer by saying...
Mae hi'n....
It's.....
In singing assembly, we all sang 'Can y Tywydd' (The weather song) which helps to answer the question with lyrics such as 'mae'n heulog heddiw, hip hwre!' and 'mae'n bwrw glaw heddiw, ych - a - fi!'
I wonder how many pupils can teach their parents our weather song?
