Message from the Head Teacher
To the MPPS Family,
It’s wonderful to see our pupils back after the summer break, refreshed, smiling and ready for an exciting Autumn Term ahead! The school is already buzzing with energy and enthusiasm, we’re looking forward to a term filled with learning, laughter and new opportunities. Welcome to all of our new families, we look forward to your child starting their educational journey at Mount Pleasant.
As always, we’re placing a strong focus on excellent attendance, positive behaviour, punctuality, and smart school uniform, all key ingredients for a successful start to the year. Thank you for your continued support in helping our children arrive on time, dressed with pride and ready to shine.
Here’s to a fantastic term together!
Kind regards Miss Fiona Rutledge
Headteacher
Our School Rules
We have been learning about our school Rights, Rules, Rewards and Consequences this week.
Please take some time to talk to your child/children about these. Thank you.
Y2 Pedestrian Training
Year 2 have been taking part in pedestrian training this week, they are learning about the importance of this skill in everyday life. It is organised by Newport City Council's Road Safety Team and includes practical training sessions, which include being taken to the roadside in small groups and learning how to cross the road safely, how to cross between parked cars and experience crossing near a junction. This training is under close supervision of the trainers and school staff.
Please support this initiative by making sure you park responsibly when you drop off and collect your children. Thank you!
Important Reminder regarding 'No Nuts in School'
We kindly remind all parents and carers that our school is a nut-free zone. This means that nuts and nut-based products must not be brought in snacks or packed lunches. Several of our students have severe nut allergies, and even trace amounts can trigger life-threatening reactions. These allergies are not just uncomfortable, they can be extremely dangerous, requiring immediate medical attention. By keeping nuts out of school, we’re helping to create a safe and inclusive environment for every child. Thank you for your continued support and vigilance in protecting our students’ health.
Parent Pay
We ask that all parents book their child's meals on a Sunday prior to pupils returning to school. If you have any problems accessing parent pay please contact the school office. Click on the link below to access the link to Chartwells Menu Chartwells Menu .
Please note; week commencing 08.09.25 will be Week 3.

You may be aware that the UK Government is testing the Emergency Alert system at 3.00pm on Sunday 7th September 2025. Although this is not a school day, Welsh Government have asked us to ensure that pupils and students are aware that this is planned, before the alert goes off, so that no one is unduly alarmed. Key Messages
The UK government will be carrying out a national test of the Emergency Alerts system on Sunday 7 September at 3pm.
Compatible mobile phones and tablets will receive an alert, make a loud siren-like sound and vibrate. Find out more at gov.uk/alerts.
The Emergency Alerts system is used to warn if there’s a danger to life nearby, including extreme weather.
Regular testing ensures the system is functioning correctly, should it need to be used in a life-threatening emergency.
The Emergency Alerts system is an important tool for reaching the public in emergency situations. However, for those who need it, information on how to opt out is available on gov.uk/alerts.
You can also learn about how to prepare for an emergency at gov.uk/prepare.
