A Huge Thank You!
We’re absolutely thrilled to announce the installation of our brand-new Timber Trail and it’s all thanks to the incredible efforts of our PTA, our amazing pupils, and the wider Mount Pleasant community! Your fundraising, energy, and enthusiasm have made this fantastic outdoor space a reality. It will bring so much joy, adventure, and active play to our school grounds. Thank you for helping us create something truly special!
Safety Reminder: To keep everyone safe, we kindly ask that pupils do not use the Timber Trail before or after school. The equipment must only be used under staff supervision during the school day. Thank you for helping us keep playtime safe and fun for all!
Harvest Festival
Mount Pleasant will be celebrating Harvest with a special assembly led by Year 4, featuring songs and poetry from Reception to Year 6. Nursery will enjoy harvest-themed activities throughout the week.
While we’re unable to invite parents, we’ll share photos on Dojo!
Harvest Donations - We’re collecting food and toiletries for Risca Food Bank. Donations can be brought in from Monday 6th October and will be displayed in the hall.
Thank you for your generous support!
Any contribution you can offer will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in anticipation of your support.
Girls Football Festival
Huge congratulations to our Girls Football Team who took part in their very first Newport Live Football Tournament at St Julian's Primary School this week! Their teamwork, determination, and enthusiasm were truly inspiring, they represented Mount Pleasant with pride. It was fantastic to see their skills in action and the joy they brought to the pitch. Keep up the training, we can’t wait to see what you achieve next! Miss Gilfillan and Miss Shier had a fantastic time cheering you on!
Autumn Term Parent Consultations
We’re looking forward to welcoming parents to our Autumn Term Parent Consultations on Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd October. These meetings are a valuable opportunity to discuss your child’s progress, well-being and learning so far this year.
Each appointment will last 10 minutes, and we kindly ask all parents to stick to their allocated time to help the schedule run smoothly for everyone.
A booking link will be sent out on Tuesday 6th October via text to parents at 4.00pm, please keep an eye on your messages and secure your slot early. Any problems with booking, please contact the school office. We look forward to seeing you!
Safeguarding - Access and Egress to Y1
To help ensure a calm and safe end to the school day, we kindly ask Year 1 parents to collect their children from the top yard using the designated pathways. Please avoid walking around the pathway directly outside the Year 1 room, as this area becomes congested and can make it difficult for pupils to spot their grown-ups.
Your support helps us create a smoother, less stressful transition for our youngest learners. Thank you for helping us keep things running safely and smoothly!
Grand Councillors written by Elijah Chivers Brown - Digital Leaders Autumn Initiative
Shw mae! Dosbarth 5M are our Digital Leaders this year. They led a fantastic assembly on Thursday where they talked about their main theme 'Cyber Security'. They gave some really important messages about how to stay safe online, and how to avoid being scammed. One of the main messages was to be super careful about click bait- we were told if it looks to good to be true, it probably is a scam so don't click on any links unless you've checked with an adult. Another important message was that we should change our passwords regularly to avoid our accounts being hacked into. We also always have to remember to be kind and caring online - just like we would be in 'real life'. If you wouldn't say something to someone's face, then don't say it online! it can cause all sorts of upset, and leave a really bad footprint! We have to make sure we are all Cyber Superheroes! Diolch for a lot of good advice Blwyddyn 5 Digital Leaders!
Welly Wang Fundraiser 8th October
Please help us to raise funds for school by sponsoring our pupils to take part in the Autumn Welly-Wang throwing competition. How far can each child wang their welly? All money raised will go towards purchasing sports and play equipment.
All pupils will be brining home a sponsored Welly-Wang form next week.
Please return sponsor money and forms by Monday 13th October 2025. Thank you and good luck with your Welly Wanging!
Y1 and Y2 Violin Project
Thank you to all parents who have already made a contribution via ParentPay towards our exciting violin project. Your generosity helps us bring creative, enriching experiences to our pupils and we truly appreciate your support in making music a joyful part of their learning journey!
Election of Parent Governor
We’re inviting nominations for a new Parent Governor to join our Governing Body. Governors play a vital role in shaping the direction of the school, from curriculum and behaviour standards to staffing and budgeting. Meetings are held once a term, usually after school or in the evening, and full training is provided free of charge.
If you’re a parent or legal guardian of a pupil at the school and would like to stand for election, please complete the nomination form and return it by the deadline. If more nominations are received than vacancies, a ballot will be held.
We’d love to see more parents involved, your voice matters!
Your child will be coming home with an envelope and two Parent Governor Nomination forms. If you are interested in this role please return your form by Monday 6th October 12.00 noon in the envelope provided.

Flu Vaccination
The School Nursing Service will visit the school to offer pupils a nasal flu spray vaccine on 08/10/2025 for pupils in Reception to Y6.
The NHS recommends that your child has a flu vaccination every year.
It’s very important to protect your child from flu to make sure they stay as healthy as possible. The best flu vaccine for most children is a nasal spray. This is the vaccine that will be given on the day.
The online consent form and additional information can be found here: E- Consent Form Link
To help make sure the vaccine is suitable for your child, and they don’t miss out, please take time to read the information and follow the link to complete the electronic consent form as soon as possible, before the planned vaccination date.
The nose spray flu vaccine that contains porcine gelatine is the best protection against flu for children. If you want to have your child protected against Flu, but you do not want them to have the nose spray, you can request the gelatine free injection instead on the consent form and you will be invited to a clinic. If your child attends a NEWPORT SECONDARY SCHOOL they will receive their vaccine in school.
Should you have any difficulties accessing the above link, please contact 01633 431685 for further support.

Brawddegau Bendigedig Bryn Hyfryd
This week's brawddeg bendigedig is used daily in several situations here at Bryn Hyfryd; first thing in the morning at Breakfast Club, by our canteen staff at dinner time, and frequently in the classroom by our teachers and support staff. The sentence is:
Beth wyt ti eisiau?
What do you want?
Though it comes across as quite direct in literal translation, it's really meant as a polite 'What would you like?'
The response would be:
Dwi eisiau....
I want ....
So for example in Breakfast Club they would ask:
Beth wyt ti eisiau i frecwast?
What do you want for breakfast?
Dwi eisiau tost gyda menyn os gwelwch yn dda!
I want toast with butter plesae!!
It would be great if this phrase could be used at home too to help familiarise the children with it and encourage them to become naturally bilingual!
Don't forget to use this phrase if you want to earn yourself a Welsh raffle ticket and the chance of winning 25 dojos from our Dreigiau Iaith and Peer Mediators!
Our School Rules
We have been learning about our school Rights, Rules, Rewards and Consequences this week.
Please take some time to talk to your child/children about these. Thank you.
Important Reminder regarding 'No Nuts in School'
We kindly remind all parents and carers that our school is a nut-free zone. This means that nuts and nut-based products must not be brought in snacks or packed lunches. Several of our students have severe nut allergies, and even trace amounts can trigger life-threatening reactions. These allergies are not just uncomfortable, they can be extremely dangerous, requiring immediate medical attention. By keeping nuts out of school, we’re helping to create a safe and inclusive environment for every child. Thank you for your continued support and vigilance in protecting our students’ health.
Parent Pay
We ask that all parents book their child's meals on a Sunday prior to pupils returning to school. If you have any problems accessing parent pay please contact the school office. Click on the link below to access the link to Chartwells Menu Chartwells Menu .
Please note; week commencing 06.10.25 will be Week 1.
School Attendance
Remember not to take holidays in term time. Poor attendance can significantly impact on the well-being and academic attainment of your child. Our attendance target is 96% for the whole school. Please see chart which demonstrates the effects of good and poor attendance. Our current whole school attendance is 96.69%. If your child is unwell please contact the school office.
