Urdd Eisteddfod Procession

We are delighted to invite pupils from Y3 - Y6 and their families to take part in the Urdd Eisteddfod 2027 Welcome Festival on Saturday 26th September in Newport.

The Welcome Festival is a special community event celebrating the arrival of the National Urdd Eisteddfod to the Gwent area in May 2027. Schools from across the region have been invited to take part in a colourful parade through Newport city centre.

The parade will begin at John Frost Square, where everyone should gather by 10:30am, ready for an 11:00am start. The procession will then make its way through the city centre and finish at the Steel Wave near the Riverfront Theatre. Following the parade, there will be a range of activities, performances and a community Jamboree led by Martyn Geraint.

Important Information

• Children must attend with a responsible adult.

• Parents and carers are warmly welcome to walk alongside us during the parade.

• For Year 6 pupils, parents/carers may choose to meet staff and pupils at the Steel Wave at the end of the procession instead.

• We are encouraging children to wear school uniform.

• Ms Rutledge and Ms Medhurst will be attending and will meet families who wish to take part in John Frost Square before the parade begins.

Class Dojo important information

We use Class Dojo in order to communicate learning taking place in class, with parents. Although this features a messaging facility, this is not monitored by staff, so please use the normal channels of communication to speak with staff e.g. email or telephone the school office (Mountpleasant.primary@newportschools.wales or TEL: 01633 839912). 

Class Dojo does however enable us to share some of the wonderful learning your child experiences with us and with you at home. We see this as your ‘window’ into the classroom, giving an opportunity to see what exciting things are taking place in class. Thank you

Important Reminder regarding 'No Nuts in School'

We kindly remind all parents and carers that our school is a nut-free zone. This means that nuts and nut-based products must not be brought in snacks or packed lunches. Several of our students have severe nut allergies, and even trace amounts can trigger life-threatening reactions. These allergies are not just uncomfortable, they can be extremely dangerous, requiring immediate medical attention. By keeping nuts out of school, we’re helping to create a safe and inclusive environment for every child. Thank you for your continued support and vigilance in protecting our students’ health. 

Managing Medication in School

In line with our Managing Medicines Policy, the school cannot give pupils any non–life‑saving medication. These medicines must be given by parents or carers at home, alternatively you can contact the school office to arrange a time to come in and give the medication yourself.

For safeguarding reasons, no medication should be put in a pupil’s bag or lunchbox.

Any prescribed long term life-saving medication must be handed straight to the school office by an adult, along with the consent and medical information forms and signed off by the Headteacher. 

We ask all parents who have children with asthma to make sure their child has an in date inhaler in school.

TESCO Stronger Starts

We are delighted to let you know that our Tesco Stronger start bid came First and has been chosen by Tesco Customers to receive a grant award of £1,500.00! This grant is specifically for the purpose of developing sensory spaces. Thank you to our school community for supporting this initiative, we are all very excited that we have won!

The School Essentials Grant

The school essentials grant, funded by the Welsh Government funds free school meals and equipment for children with families on low incomes. All primary school pupils in Newport receive free school meals through the Universal Free School meals. 

If your child is in primary school and receiving universal free school meals and you have a low household income (click on the link to see if you are eligible https://www.newport.gov.uk/schools-and-learning/school-meals/free-school-meals ), you should still complete an application form for free school meals.

You may be entitled to further support and your school may also receive additional funding. To receive the school essentials grant support, you have to apply. https://www.newport.gov.uk/schools-and-learning/educational-grants 

The grant can help fund:

• school uniform (including coats and shoes)

• school sports kit

• uniform for activities such as, scouts; guides; cadets; sports; performing arts

• school equipment (school bags and stationery)

• laptops or tablets

• equipment for out of school trips such as outdoor learning (waterproofs)
