Message from the Interim Headteacher

Dear Parents/Carers,

As we approach the end of the academic year, things certainly haven't slowed down! The last few weeks have been filled with exciting opportunities and memorable experiences for our children.

This week, our Year 6 children treated us to an outstanding leavers' production, showcasing their confidence, talent and teamwork. We are incredibly proud of the way they performed and represented our school. As they prepare for the next stage of their educational journey, we wish them every success. Year 5 pupils enjoyed their Curriculum Transition Day at Lliswerry High School today, which provided them with a valuable opportunity to experience life at secondary school. Across the school, children also took part in our 'Move Up Day' last Friday, which enabled them to spend time with their new teachers and classmates in preparation for September. Last week, we were delighted to welcome our new Reception children and their families to our recent 'Stay and Play' session. It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces exploring their new environment and beginning their Lliswerry journey.

As we reflect on the year, we recognise what a busy and successful academic year it has been. There is so much that has been achieved, both inside and outside the classroom. We are incredibly proud of each and every child for their hard work and enthusiasm throughout the year.

Thank you to all the Lliswerry families for your ongoing support. The strong partnership between home and school plays a vital role in helping the children thrive, and we are grateful for the encouragement and support you have given throughout the year.

We look forward to celebrating the final days of term together and finishing the year on a high!

Head and Deputy Girls and Boys

As we come to the end of our final year at Lliswerry Primary School, we would like to take this opportunity to reflect on some of the unforgettable experiences we have shared together.

One of the highlights of the year was our residential trip to Gilwern Outdoor Education Centre. We challenged ourselves with a range of exciting activities, stepped out of our comfort zones and created memories that will stay with us for years to come. The trip helped us build confidence, resilience and teamwork, and it was a fantastic opportunity to spend time with our classmates before moving on to high school.

Our Year 6 Leavers’ Concert was another very special moment and a huge success. We are incredibly proud of everyone who took part. The singing, acting and dancing were fantastic, and it was wonderful to perform in front of our families and friends. We worked hard to make the concert memorable and would like to thank all the staff who supported us in making it such a brilliant celebration of our time at primary school.

We have also enjoyed hosting our recent school cafés, which have been a great way to welcome parents and members of our community into school. It has been lovely serving refreshments, chatting with visitors and helping to create such a warm and friendly atmosphere. Thank you to everyone who attended and supported these events.

Being Head Boy and Head Girl has been a true honour. We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to represent our school and be role models for younger pupils. We are proud of everything Lliswerry Primary School stands for and of the kindness, determination and enthusiasm shown by our fellow pupils every day.

As we prepare to start the next chapter of our education, we leave with many happy memories and friendships that will last a lifetime. We would like to thank all of the staff, pupils and families who have supported us throughout our journey at Lliswerry Primary School.

Year 6 Leavers

As we come to the end of our Year 6 journey, we would like to say a huge thank you to all parents, carers and family members who attended our Year 6 leavers' performance of Gigglebox.

The children absolutely shone on stage and worked incredibly hard over many weeks to learn their lines, songs and dances. We were also delighted by the wonderful surprise audience participation, which added even more fun and laughter to an already memorable performance! We are immensely proud of every single child and are sure that you are too.

We have an exciting final week planned for our Year 6 pupils. Using the money they raised through their Enterprise project, the children voted to enjoy a McDonald's treat, which they are very much looking forward to. We also have a few more surprises planned throughout the week to celebrate all of their achievements and make their final days at primary school extra special.

A reminder that our Silent Disco will take place on Tuesday afternoon. Children are welcome to wear the fantastic tie-dye t-shirts they have created as part of the celebrations.

Finally, as our Year 6 children prepare to take their next step, we would like to wish them every success for the future. Good luck in high school! We know that each and every one of you will continue to grow, achieve and shine brightly in whatever you choose to do.

Well done, Year 6! We are so proud of you all! 🌟

6ST Cafe Experience was a sell out!

6ST opened The Dragon's Dish cafe last Thursday. The result of a term of hard work learning to be entrepreneurs. It was a huge success with cakes selling out within the first hour of business. The children worked extremely hard making the food and drinks, serving the customers and making sure everyone had a great time. We are so grateful for all the support from our parents and carers, thank you so much for coming along. We are pleased and proud to announce that the children raised almost £200 to go towards their end of year celebrations.

Year 6 Splash Fest!

After some gentle persuasion from our Year 6 children, Mrs Pegington and Mrs Issac have allowed a 'splash fest' to be part of the leavers' celebrations and fun on Thursday 16th July. Members of staff are invited to join in the fun. With the current temperatures, we think there will be many people wanting to join in!

Chartwells Eco Conference

On 8th July, we took part in an exciting Eco trip to John Frost School with Mrs Cadogan. During the day, we participated in a variety of Eco-themed activities. Some of these included experiencing virtual reality (VR) and creating ideas for an environmentally friendly business.

One of our favourite activities was making energy balls. After making them, we had to present our ideas to everyone there and explain why people should try our energy balls. A panel of judges then chose their favourite presentation. Although we didn't win, we were very proud of our efforts and enjoyed taking part in the challenge.

We would like to say a huge thank you to Chartwells for organising such a fun and interesting day. We learned a lot about sustainability and enjoyed representing our school.

Friday Hot Chocolate with Mrs Pegington

Following today's Celebration Assembly, which is always one of the highlights of our school week, we invited a group of our Lliswerry role models to share squash and a sweet treat with Mrs Pegington. These children have all had a fantastic week and we are so proud of them! Keep shining bright and being the superstars you are!

Attendance

We are continually working on our attendnace at school. Remember not to take holidays in term time. Poor attendance can significantly impact on the well-being and academic attainment of your child. Our attendance target is 91.36% for the whole school.

Please see the attached chart which demonstrates the effects of good and poor attendance. Our current whole school attendance is 89.6% which is below the expected. It is so important we must keep working together to achieve our target.

2DA Class Assembly

This week 2DA presented their class assembly and did an amazing job! Lots of children were worried about speaking in front of an audience but they all spoke with confidence and sang beautifully. We are very proud of them! A big thank you to all of the parents and carers that came along to support the children. The children were very excited to see you there and share their lovely learning experiences with you. Diolch!

Dance Success for Lliswerry!

Lliswerry Primary School Dance Club proudly took part in the Interfaith Council for Wales Building the Community competition. The children worked incredibly hard throughout the process and were successful in reaching the performance stage at the ICC Wales.

They demonstrated outstanding determination, resilience and teamwork, performing with confidence and enthusiasm. Their dedication and commitment were evident in every rehearsal and performance and they represented our school brilliantly.

As a result of their fantastic achievement, we were delighted to be invited to the Awards Night as finalists. We are extremely proud of every member of the Dance Club for their hard work and the positive way they represented our school throughout this exciting opportunity.

Our thanks go to Miss Davies for her hard work over the past few months!

Environments across the School

As a school we have invested heavily over the last term in our Foundation Phase classrooms. New flooring has been laid in all classes from Reception to Year 2 and new resources and furniture have been purchased to support and enhance teaching and learning. The children and the staff have been so excited to see the environment transformations to allow them to bring their learning to life!

Nursery New Intake Meeting

It was lovely to meet our new families at the Nursey welcome meeting this week. The children certainly enjoyed their time playing in the Nursery and didn't want to leave! We are looking forward to September and beginning our Nursery journey together.

Magazine Madness in Year 1!

This week, the children in Year 1 have been working their socks off! (Pencils have definitely been letting off some steam!) After learning all about minibeasts in their topic 'Little Creatures, Big Adventures', their enthusiasm was still 'buzzing' when the Year 1 teachers mentioned that they would be putting their knowledge into a magazine all about minibeasts. The children then had the fantastic idea of selling them! Letters and order slips went home on Tuesday to put your orders in, with each magazine costing 50p. All money made will go back to Year 1 to have a special treat next week.

If you haven't already, please place your orders with Miss Managhan, Mrs Doolan or Miss Senkowych by Monday 13th July at the very latest.

Please can we politely ask that the correct amount of money is used to pay as we will be unable to give change.

Nursery Stay Active!

Despite sports day being cancelled due to the hot weather and high temeratures, Nursery had a fantastic week learning about healthy choices. We have enjoyed making fruit kebabs showing a repeating pattern and when it was cooler we did manage to have some fun running, jumping, throwing and balancing!

Moving Up Day

On Friday 3rd July 2026, your child visited their new class teacher and spent time in the class that they will be starting in in September. You should have received a Class Welcome Leaflet telling you a little about the teacher and sharing some key information regarding next year. In addition to this, enhanced transition will take place for some identified pupils over the next week prior to the end of term.

We are all looking forward to seeing the children thrive in their new classes next year! 🌟

Food Share and Uniform Shop

The Food Share and Uniform Shop continue to be open at the following times:

Monday: 8:45am - 9:15am

Wednesday: 3:00pm - 3:30pm

Friday: 8:45am - 9:15am

We have a range of pre loved uniform in all sizes, and a selection of dried foods available. 50p donation per item for uniform

Good quality pre-loved uniform!

If you should have any pre-loved uniform that you no longer need at the end of term please wash and return to school for our Uniform Shop. Our stock is running low in may sizes at present so we would be grateful of donations in readiness for the next academic year to start in September!

Mini Summer Fayre

The Friends of Lliswerry (FOL) will be holding a mini Summer Fayre after school on Tuesday 14th July. If you would like to donate cake for a stall please bring them into school on Tuesday. Please note that children must wear uniform on this day, it is NOT a non-uniform day.

Please send all raffle money and stubs to school by Monday 13th July as the raffle will be drawn at the fayre.

The FOL are looking forward to seeing you there!
