Value of the Month:
Ymadrodd y Pythefnos
Criw Cymraeg have been given the important task of delivering fortnightly assemblies to our learners at Lliswerry! The children have been working incredibly hard behind the scenes to learn and teach useful phrases and energetic songs to raise the profile of Welsh across the school. Where will you choose to use the phrase?
Message from the Interim Headteacher
Welcome back after the Easter break. I hope everyone feels rested and ready for an exciting term ahead. It has been wonderful to see the children return so positively, demonstrating our value of the month 'respect' and working hard to follow our school rules. We are very much looking forward to an exciting and successful summer term ahead, with so many wonderful learning opportunities planned.
As always, the staff and I would like to thank you for your continued support.
Warmest wishes
Mrs Pegington
Head and Deputy Girls and Boys
Hello!
We are the Head Boy and Head Girl. To start off this term, we auditioned for our end of year show and began our exciting new topic, Little Chefs’ Big Ideas. We have been learning about making our own café and finding out how businesses work. We are looking forward to welcoming parents into our cafe over the next half term!
We also had our wet areas in all of the Year 3 to Year 6 corridors decorated over Easter, and we are very grateful to our headteacher, Mrs Pegington, for making this happen.
Thank you for reading! We will keep you updated on the exciting half term ahead!
Please continue to check the Lliswerry Voice for important information and dates for the diary. Please be aware all dates are subject to change.

Class LC and HJ - Step into Summer
Nursery Trip to Cefn Mably
Nursery had a fantastic start to our new topic with a sunny visit to Cefn Mably Farm Park. It was a day filled with fun and friendships.
We met lots of interesting animals some of them were very hungry! It was lovely to see everyone playing and learning together. We really appreciated having so many family members join us, thank you for your support.
Reception Bug Hunt
Reception had a fantastic start to their topic by going on a bug hunt together. They were surprised by all the creatures that live in our school grounds! Everyone took great care to be kind to the creatures and observe them carefully and even made some bug hotels to give them somewhere safe to live!
Following on from this, they were very lucky to learn about keeping bugs from one of our parents! A huge thank you to Nola in RBA and her Mum who shared their experience of keeping some very interesting pets and helped all of the Reception classes understand what these creatures need to live happy lives.
There are lots of exciting learning experiences to come and many questions the children would like to discover answers for!
Year 1 - Beechwood Park trip
Year 1 had a fantastic trip to Beechwood Park to celebrate the start of their topic, 'Little Creatures, Big Adventures'. They gained many valuable experiences such as exchanging money in the cafe for a sweet treat, going on a nature hunt and exploring what the park has to offer to keep families and children entertained!
We received glowing reports from the members of the public and the owners of 'The Cafe at Beechwood' complimenting their exemplary behaviour and their use of manners. What a credit to our school - we are SO proud.
Upon arrival back to school, children fed back their ideas on what they wanted to learn about to further their learning journey this Summer term. The Year 1 team are looking forward to a fun, interactive and creepy crawlie term ahead ...
Year 4 - Beekeeper Visit
Year 4 had an exciting visit to launch their 'Save the Bees, Save our Planet' topic.
A local beekeeper came to visit to share her knowledge about bees and her role as a beekeeper. The children were able to smell and handle beeswax candles, try on protective uniform and ask LOTS of questions that they had prepared.
It was a great start to our new summer term topic and we are looking forward to where our learning will take us in the next few weeks!
Year 5 were lucky enough to get to join a Welsh Boxing session this week. They were able to learn different types of punches and stances. The coach talked about different rules the children have to follow and demonstrated each technique. The children thorouhgly enjoyed this session and are very excited by the opportunity to have another session later in the Summer Term.
Before
After
During the Easter holidays, there were lots of changes happening within our KS2 areas of the school. We have been lucky enough to have all new flooring laid in each communal area outside the Y3, Y4, Y5 and Y6 classrooms and everywhere has been given a fresh coat of paint. New soft furnishings, storage and lamps have been purchased to create warm, welcoming spaces where children can regulate if they are not classroom ready. The children have already commented on how much they appreciate the changes to their environments. The before and after pictures show just how different they look!
On Saturday 25th April, Code Club are hosting an event free for children and families at the ICC, in Newport. Click the link here to sign up.
Menter Iaith Casnewydd are hosting a Welsh festival, Gwyl Newydd on 13th June at Rodney Parade.
For more information, please click here to view the website.
On a weekly basis, one child from every class is chosen to have hot chocolate and biscuits with Mrs Pegington. The children chosen are those who have gone 'above and beyond' in all that they do. Congratulations and thank you to these children. Keep up the great things you are doing!
In addition to the weekly celebrations in school, one child from every class will also receive some very special mail delivered directly to their home. The first children were so excited to have their postcatrds delivered by the postman this week!
As a school we feel very strongly that the positive is recognised and rewarded throughout the school.

BroadMead Park Mosaic
This week was the unveiling of the BroadMead mosaic. The children were able to see their design for the first time and it is beautiful. Thank you to artists Chris and Alison, Hedyn and Tanio Cymru for including our children in this project. Make sure to have a look at the mosaic near the new developments and see if you can spot the wildlife and landmarks of our local area and Wetlands.
PACT Sessions (Parent and Children Together)
Class LC and HJ
Thank you to everyone who attended our PACT session last week.
It was lovely to see so many of our families enjoying the activities available and sharing ideas and experiences between each other. Please do share your photos with us of how you put some of these ideas into practice at home. You may do this via Seesaw or messaging the Class Teachers directly.
