Message from the Interim Headteacher
It’s been a busy but exciting couple of weeks here in school. The children have been working incredibly hard in their classes and showing great commitment to following our school rules. I am so proud of the effort and enthusiasm they continue to show every day.
A highlight recently has been our fantastic Eisteddfod celebrations. In our Eisteddfod assembly, the children delighted us all with their confident, expressive Welsh performances, celebrating our culture with pride. We were blown away by the outstanding creative family entries in our art and craft competition - thank you to everyone who took part and congratulations to all the families who won the wonderful basket of Welsh goodies!
With only a couple of weeks left until we break up for the Easter holiday, we still have so much to look forward to and achieve. I have no doubt that the children will continue to work hard and achieve great things.
Thank you to all parents and carers for their ongoing support. We really appreciate it.
Mrs Pegington
Inspection Update
As mentioned in our last Lliswerry Lines newsletter, we are continuing to work hard on the recommendations from our previous inspection which was in June 2025. Below is a brief update on some of the things we have done to make progress against each inspection recommendation.
Recommendation 1
Ensure that leaders identify and prioritise areas for development effectively and secure the necessary improvements
We have been busy reviewing learning across the school so that leaders can identify what we are doing well and what we can improve. We are already building on this feedback to keep strengthening our teaching and children’s learning.
Recommendation 2
Improve the quality of teaching to ensure that pupils consistently make effective progress across the curriculum
We have been working hard on improving the quality of teaching across the school. Leaders have been reviewing planning, learning environments and resources, and a baseline of teaching has been completed. We are now developing a whole‑school teaching and learning strategy and strengthening assessment for learning so that pupils make consistently strong progress in all areas of the curriculum.
Recommendation 3
Ensure that pupils make strong progress in mathematics and numeracy with a particular focus on the understanding of key concepts
We have continued to strengthen maths and numeracy across the school. Staff have had training on using practical resources to support children’s understanding, and we have reviewed planning to ensure maths skills are taught progressively. We now have clear and consistent expectations for how maths is taught in every class, with pupils getting more opportunities to apply maths in real-life situations and develop their problem solving skills.
As a school we have made some positive progress against each of the recommendations above. We will of course continue to work hard to continue making the positive progress and keep you regularly updated about this.
Head and Deputy Girls and Boys
Hello, welcome to this months newsletter. On Wednesday we attended a Grand Council event in Llanwern High School. We learnt all about the history of Newport and we made some traditional welsh food - leek & potato soup!
We were also treated to a rap lesson from Simon and found out some very exciting news… next year the Welsh Eistedfordd is going to be hosted in Tredegar Park. There will be lots of fun activities and games for all! Thank you for reading this week’s newsletter.

Unfortunately we are experiencing technical difficulties with our website currently. We are working hard to fix this and it should be back up and running by next week. Thank you for your patience.
We were very lucky to welcome local artists Chris Partridge and Alison McGann to school to work with the children to create a mosaic design for the new development on Broadmead Park. The theme was wetlands and wildlife and the children enjoyed drawing their design whilst Chris and Alison brought it to life as a mosaic. Thank you to Laura and Rebecca from Cyson Cymru who also visited and offered support.
Keep a look out for the mosaic near Broadmead Park in the next few weeks.
We would like to say a huge 'diolch' for the FANTASTIC entries submitted for the Eisteddfod Art Competition. It was so lovely to see the 'buzz' after half term when children proudly walked in with their entries. All entries have been displayed in the school halls and have created lots of discussions and exciting conversations.
Winners were presented with a Welsh hamper on Wednesday this week and there were smiles all around. Da iawn all - we can't wait to do it again next year!
South Wales Football Coaching will be hosting an April school holiday football coaching camp for boys and girls in all classes from reception class to year 6 (Ages 4-13). For more information, please click the link to view the letter.
Thank you for attending 3OS Class Assembly. The children have worked incredibly hard to learn their Class Assembly and learn about Holi. This was their first time performing to their grown ups in the 'big hall' and they have certainly made us all very proud!
Parent and Children Together - PACT
Thank you so much for taking the time to attend our recent maths PACT sessions. It was great to see so many of you there and engaging so positively with the sessions. We hope the workshops helped you gain a clearer understanding of how maths is taught in school, and that you picked up a few new ideas and strategies that you can try at home too.
Thank you again for your support — it really makes a difference to your child’s learning.
