Whether you are at the engagement stage or the design stage of development, planning for the roll out of Curriculum for Wales should begin at a whole-school level. It’s important that everyone in your school community shares the same vision for and understanding of the key principles and purposes of the framework in relation to meeting the unique needs of your learners. When planning the journey to reform, the emphasis for schools is on starting from the four purposes and exploring what they mean for all learners in every aspect of the design, and taking time to develop thinking about each aspect at every stage.
This first menu of whole-school workshops may support schools and settings with professional learning, which focusses on whole-school aspects underpinning the foundations on which to build a local curriculum. The workshops will support schools or even clusters of schools with their planning for reform, and can provide stimuli for Inset days or planned professional learning sessions. Each of the workshops, beginning with creating a vision, supports the conceptual understanding of Curriculum for Wales as a purpose-led curriculum and provides opportunities to reflect on the school’s journey so far in relation to national expectations.
