Expressive Arts is an important aspect at Ysgol Gynradd Gymunedol Llanilar and has been an integral part of the school's culture for many years. Supporting pupils to be creative, confident learners who are enterprising and principled contributors is key in our teaching. All pupils have the opportunity to perform, speak, act, dance, work together and sing throughout the school year. All pupils find satisfaction in displaying their creative work in front of a wide audience including parents and members of the school community.
The Expressive Arts encompasses five disciplines, namely art, music, dance, drama, and film and digital media. In order to give context to all aspects, they can be presented as a cross-curricular creative process as part of the themes of the classes.
The effect of all this is that almost all pupils at Ysgol Gynradd Gymunedol Llanilar feel confident when presenting, communicating and sharing their work. They have developed resilience and self-esteem in discussing, expressing, creating and experimenting. They are able to research and apply their work effectively and are able to transfer their creative skills across the curriculum. By being involved in the expressive arts almost all learners gain an understanding of the cultures of Wales and the world. As a result they develop into healthy, confident individuals who are ready to live full lives as valuable members of society.
This document collates the pupils' journey across the school in developing aspects of Expressive Arts. It is evidence of progress and of the diversity and breadth of the curriculum in the school.

Collaborating with the Arts Council to develop artistic skills
Mae Ysgol Gynradd Gymunedol Llanilar yn rhan o gynllun 2 flynedd fel Ysgol Arweiniol Celfyddydau gyda Chyngor y Celfyddydau. Llynedd fe gyd-weithiom gydag artist creadigol Thea De Kline i ymchwilio, dylunio a chreu gardd synhwyraidd. Ysgrifennwyd Astudiaeth Achos ar effaith y prosiect i Lywodraeth Cymru.
Eleni, rydym wedi datblygu hyn ymhellach trwy gyd-weithio gyda'r artist creadigol Heledd Watkins. Mae hi'n arwain prosiect celfyddydol sydd yn cael ei ysbrydoli gan ein cymuned leol.
Ysgol Gynradd Gymunedol Llanilar is part of a 2 year scheme as a Lead Arts School with the Arts Council. Last year we collaborated with creative artist Thea De Kline to research, design and create a sensory garden. A Case Study was written on the impact of the project for the Welsh Government.
This year, we have developed this further by working together with the creative artist Heledd Watkins. She leads an arts project which is inspired by our local community.
