Gwybodaeth Gyffredinol
Ceredigion is centrally located on the western coastline of Wales and is sheltered from the east by the Pumlumon mountain range. It has spectacular landscapes, award-winning beaches and welcoming people.
The Welsh language and its culture is Ceredigion’s most important characteristic and although it is one of Europe’s oldest languages, it is alive and well and used enthusiastically by the old and young alike.
Lleolir Ceredigion yng nghanol arfordir gorllewinol Cymru, a caiff ei chysgodi o'r dwyrain gan fynyddoedd Pumlumon. Yma, mae tirwedd anhygoel, traethau hyfryd a phobl groesawgar.
Un o brif nodweddion Ceredigion yw'r iaith Gymraeg a'i diwylliant. Yn un o ieithoedd hynaf Ewrop, mae'r iaith yn fyw yma ac yn cael ei defnyddio'n frwdfrydig yn y gymuned leol, ymysg yr ifanc a'r hen.
What are the advantages of being bilingual? /
Beth yw manteision dwyieithrwydd?
Research has shown that children who speak two languages are:
· more versatile and creative in their thinking;
· more intellectually advanced in other fields at four and five years old;
· better at retaining their mental abilities into old age.
Being able to speak Welsh and English gives young people in Wales an enormous advantage when they enter the job market. Since The Welsh Language Act 1993 was passed, more use is being made of the language in every aspect of life. As a result, public bodies, private companies and voluntary organisations are looking for staff that are able to work effectively in both languages.
Mae ymchwil yn dangos fod plant sy'n siarad mwy nag un iaith yn:
meddwl yn fwy hyblyg a chreadigol;
yn fwy datblygiedig yn ddeallusol mewn meysydd eraill pan yn bedair a phum mlwydd oed;
yn llai tebyg o golli eu cof wrth heneiddio.
Mae gallu siarad Cymraeg a Saesneg yn fantais fawr i bobl ifanc Cymru wrth chwilio am swyddi. Ers Deddf yr Iaith Gymraeg1993 mae mwy o ddefnydd o’r iaith ymhob agwedd ar fywyd. Felly mae cyrff cyhoeddus, cwmnïau preifat a mudiadau gwirfoddol yn chwilio am staff sy’n gallu gweithio’n effeithiol yn y ddwy iaith.
Your child’s education /
Addysg eich plentyn
The aim of Ceredigion Education Authority’s language policy is to equip every pupil with the necessary language skills so that they can participate fully within a bilingual society.
The majority of the county’s primary schools immerse pupils in the Welsh language until they are 7 years old. English is taught as a subject in Key Stage 2. This method has been proven to be very effective and will not affect a child’s ability to read and write in English in the long term.
Children that have moved to the area and have no knowledge of Welsh can receive assistance at one of Ceredigion's three language centres, to help them adapt to the bilingual education system. Moving to a new area can be a difficult experience for a child. Not only do they have to deal with making new friends, but here in Ceredigion they are also introduced to a new language. To assist them, the Education Authority provides language centres for Welsh learners who have recently arrived in the area. Evidence shows that language centres enable children to integrate more effectively into the local school and community. What is apparent is that language development depends considerably on the experience shared with pupils and that linguistic experiences provided in a positive and homely environment ensures development.
There are three centres in Ceredigion. One is located at Cardigan Primary School Campus, one is located at the Felinfach Campus and the other at Penweddig Secondary School Campus. Pupils are educated and supported by experienced language teachers throughout the day. The course currently runs for four days a week, from Monday to Thursday. Evidence shows that immersion in the language for an extended period produces better results.
The timetable will incorporate various aspects of the curriculum. In Welsh, the main emphasis will initially be on oral work, but as proficiency in the language progresses, reading and writing activities will be developed.
Dinner is available at the centres and there will be free meals for pupils who normally receive them. If they do not wish to receive a cooked meal, pupils are welcome to bring a packed lunch.
This scheme receives the full support of the primary school head teachers of the area. We hope that you will be eager to give your child/ren the opportunity of attending a language centre. This will provide an added dimension to their education and offer new experiences which will enrich their lives and enable them to integrate more effectively into their new school and community.
Bwriad polisi Iaith Cyngor Sir Ceredigion yw darparu disgyblion gyda’r sgiliau ieithyddol anghenrheidol sydd angen arnynt er mwyn gallu cyfrannu’n llawn i gymdeithas ddwyieithog.
Mae mwyafrif o ysgolion y sir yn trochi disgyblion yn llwyr yn yr iaith Gymraeg hyd nes eu bod yn 7 mlwydd oed. Dysgir Saesneg fel pwnc yn CA2. Mae’r dull yma yn profi’n un llwyddiannus, nad sy’n amharu ar allu’r disgyblion i ddarllen ac ysgrifennu yn y Saesneg yn y tymor hir.
Gall plant sy’n symud i’r ardal, sydd heb ddealltwriaeth o’r iaith, dderbyn cymorth yn un o dair canolfan iaith y sir, sy’n eu cefnogi i addasu ac ymdopi gyda’r system addysg ddwyieithog.
Mae symud i ardal newydd yn medru bod yn brofiad anodd i blentyn. Nid yn unig mae’n rhaid iddynt ddelio â gwneud ffrindiau newydd, ond yma yng Ngheredigion cyflwynir iaith newydd iddynt hefyd. I’w cynorthwyo mae’r Awdurdod Addysg yn darparu canolfan iaith ar gyfer plant sydd newydd symud i’r ardal. Ceir tystiolaeth bod y canolfannau iaith yn rhoi cyfle i blant ymdopi’n llawer mwy effeithiol yn eu hysgol a’u cymuned leol. Yr hyn ddaw i’r amlwg yw bod rhannu profiadau ieithyddol mewn awyrgylch gartrefol ond adeiladol yn sicrhau datblygiad pellach.
Mae tair canolfan iaith yng Ngheredigion. Lleolir un canolfan ar gampws Ysgol Gynradd Aberteifi, un arall ar gampws Felinfach a’r trydydd ar gampws Ysgol Uwchradd Penweddig. Mae disgyblion yn cael eu haddysgu gan athrawon iaith profiadol drwy gydol y dydd. Mae’r cwrs yn rhedeg am bedwar diwrnod yr wythnos, o ddydd Llun i ddydd Iau. Mae tystiolaeth yn dangos bod trochi yn yr iaith am gyfnod estynedig yn arwain at well canlyniadau.
Bydd yr amserlen yn cynnwys agweddau amrywiol o’r cwricwlwm. Bydd y pwyslais ar y llafar yn y lle cyntaf, ond wrth i ddealltwriaeth y disgybl o’r iaith gynyddu, datblygir y sgiliau darllen ac ysgrifennu hefyd.
Bydd cinio ar gael yn ffreutur yr ysgol, a bydd pryd am ddim i’r rhai sy’n ei dderbyn fel arfer. Os nad ydynt yn dewis derbyn cinio poeth mae pob croeso iddynt ddod â phecyn bwyd iachus gyda nhw.
Mae’r cynllun yn derbyn cefnogaeth lawn penaethiaid y cylch. Gobeithiwn y byddwch yn awyddus i roi’r cyfle i’ch plant/plentyn fynychu’r Ganolfan Iaith er mwyn rhoi dimensiwn ychwanegol i’w haddysg. Bydd y profiadau newydd yma’n cyfoethogi eu bywydau ac yn ei gwneud yn haws iddynt ymgartrefu yn yr ysgol ac ymdoddi’n llwyr i’r gymdeithas leol.
