Dear Student,
It gives me great pleasure to present to you this prospectus. Its purpose is to guide those of you who intend to remain in full time education by outlining the possible pathways available to you following your GCSE examinations. Education is full of decisions: already you have chosen your comprehensive school and, at the end of Year 9, the subjects you wanted to study for GCSE. You now have a choice as to where you would like to continue your education. You could stay in Bro Teifi, attend 6th Form at another school or go on to Further Education College. You will have to decide which courses to follow, which higher education colleges to attend and, eventually, which career to pursue. Before making your decision, you should consider carefully the advantages of remaining at Ysgol Bro Teifi.
· An environment which is already familiar to you – you know the teachers and the pupils
· Excellent standards in terms of academic and vocational results.
· A range of extra-curricular opportunities – School Eisteddfod, Sport, Music, Clubs and Societies, Community Work
· A close knit bilingual community with a strong Welsh ethos
· A broad and balanced curriculum which includes a range of academic and vocational qualifications. The school also provides opportunities to re-sit GCSEs in the core subjects.
· Work experience opportunities
· Excellent resources which include:
o A 6th Form Common Room with locker facilities for all students
o A dedicated 6th Form Computer Room
o A 6th Form Work Room
o Access to the school library to complete self-supported study and research
· A track record of supporting pupils in terms of completing the Welsh Baccalaureate
The important thing is that you make the most of all guidance and advice that you’ll receive and that you make the right decision for YOU! Finally, on behalf of the staff and myself, I wish you well in your examinations. I trust that you engage yourself and make a sustained effort from now to the examinations. Give of your best - nobody can ask for more.
Sincerely,
R Jenkins
Headteacher
You need to consider all possibilities and make the most suitable decision for you. It would be useful to undertake some research into possible career choices so that you may make the best choice to take you towards your chosen career path. If you remain unsure, then it is important that you keep your options open and not choose too narrow a path. Broadly, your choices will be:
1. Remain in School – Continue your studies into Year 12.
2. Leave School – Attend Further Education College
3. Leave School –Apprenticeship / Training Programme / Employment
What are the advantages of staying in school?
1. If you choose to stay on at school, you will get the chance to achieve more qualifications and also gain relevant experiences which will enable you to go on to higher education or to follow a particular vocation.
2. You are used to the school and the staff and you know the pupils. You will be working with staff who know you well and know what your personal needs are.
3. The teaching methods will be familiar to you.
4. Sixth form pupils appear as young adults to the junior pupils and you will have a great opportunity to shoulder extra responsibilities and to develop your leadership qualities.
What do I need to do in order to get a place in the 6th Form at Bro Teifi?
All pupils will be welcomed into the Sixth Form provided that they have decided voluntarily to continue with their education. You must remember that it is essential that you are genuinely interested in the course and that you have the will to work.
As a school, we do everything within our ability to meet your educational, cultural and social needs. we have fantastic resources available and committed and experienced staff who are willing to go the extra mile for you.

All teaching spaces are fitted with the new generation of Clevertouch interactive teaching screens making Ysgol Bro Teifi one of the leading and pioneering teaching facilities in the country. There is a full WiFi facility available both internally and externally and the 6th Form will be able to bring and use their own devices, subject to the school’s BYOD policy. Currently, we also provide a laptop for each member of the 6th form if they need one.
The fully equipped technology workshops include 3D printers, laser cutters and a 30 workstation ICT Design Suite.
In order to make the correct choice you should obviously seek advice from your parents and potential future employers but, in school, you can seek advice from the following people:

Mr Robert Jenkins
Deputy Headteacher
Mr Gareth Evans
Head of Phase 3 / Head of 6th Form
: Mrs Cerys Charles / Mrs Elinor Morgan

:Dependent on chosen subject
Careers Officer
: Mr Wyn Davies
Deputy Head of Phase 3 (Year 11)

Career advice and education
During the two years in the Sixth Form, a programme of Careers education, advice and counselling will be organized for every pupil.
The careers officer will conduct individual interviews and will work together with members of the school staff to give advice regarding higher education. He will organise Higher Education Workshops.
Additionally, every pupil in year 12 will follow a Work Related Education programme as part of the Welsh Baccalaureate Enterprise and Employability Challenge The work will concentrate on preparing applications and achieving suitable placements at further and higher education establishments, taking a Gap Year, scholarships or employment.
Your choice of subjects will obviously depend on your intended career and you should discuss with the Careers Officer what entry qualifications are necessary.
There are many pupils who have only a vague idea of their career intention. It follows then that you choose a range of subjects that will ensure entry into a broad group of careers.
It is your future and you must make up your mind.
When making your decision, bear in mind these three factors:
1. Choose the subjects you enjoy most
2. Choose the subjects you are good at
3. Choose the subjects that you need in order to enable
you to follow a particular career path / Higher Education Course
It will be possible to follow several combinations of subjects in Year 12.
Here are some examples:
Student 1: 3 or 4 AS subjects + Welsh Bac Level 3
Student 2 2 AS subjects + 1 Vocational Level 3 + Welsh Bac Level 3
Student 3 2 Vocational Level 3 courses + 1 AS subject + Welsh Bac Level 3
At Ysgol Bro Teifi, just as in any other post-16 education establishment in Wales, every pupil will follow the Advanced Welsh Baccalaureate.
The purpose of the course is to enable students to develop and demonstrate an understanding of and proficiency in essential and employability skills. These are the skills that employers and next-stage educators value and which learners need for learning, work and life. The course makes learners better equipped for the world of work, better informed and more active citizens.
You need to take part in three challenges, and complete an Individual Project.
These four Components build up the Skills Challenge Certificate. As part of the skills experience, all learners must study these skills:
- Literacy
- Numeracy
- Digital Literacy
- Critical Thinking and Problem Solving
- Creativity and Innovation
- Planning and Organisation
- Personal Effectiveness
You must also pass English/Welsh and Maths (Numeracy) and some further GCSE subjects, in order to pass the course at the Advanced level
In previous years, 90% of Bro Teifi pupils have attended university or college. Whilst considering your choice of course at university or college, it is important to ensure that your Sixth Form options will allow you to pursue the qualification you hope to study in the future.
