8th grade students will have 6 hours of class each day. Academic classes for 8th graders run all throughout the day and are not organized into teams. All students will take ELA (English/Language Arts), Math or Honors Algebra 1, Science and Social Studies. Students do not have required electives in 8th grade and therefore are free to choose 4 semesters of elective classes. In addition to the elective classes students have taken in 6th and 7th grade, some new semester options such as Body Conditioning, Engineering, Intro. to Multimedia, Video Productions, WEB Leadership and LACES are available.
Students also have the option to take high school credit electives in Spanish I and Design. Design and Spanish I both address the MDE High School Merit Curricular requirements; therefore, they each count as high school credits for
graduation. Grades earned will appear on the high school transcript. Please note, however, that the grades earned in these classes will not be included in a student’s high school GPA.
