Shannon Merlino- violin and viola teacher
Shannon Merlino received her Master of Music degree in violin from the Mannes College of Music and her Bachelor of Music degree in Violin Performance at Mason Gross School of the Arts. She is currently working toward her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in violin at Rutgers University. Her previous teachers include Mikhail Kopelman, Ittai Shapira, Lewis Kaplan, Alice Herman, Dmitri Levin, Matthew Reichert, Lenuta Ciulei, Emlyn Ngai, Ivan Chan, Leonid Sigal and Dr. Chin Kim. Ms. Merlino has performed in master classes given by Lara St. John, Juliette Kang, David Kim and Dorothy DeLay. She has also received extensive training in chamber music and orchestral conducting.
Ms. Merlino has extensive performance experience in solo, orchestral and chamber music. She was a runner-up in the South Orange Symphony competition and a finalist in the Miami String Quartet competition, and has performed solo recitals throughout the East Coast. As a chamber musician, she has recorded on the Rhino and Naxos record labels. In addition, she has performed with numerous folk and rock groups.
However, Ms. Merlino’s passion is for teaching. After studying violin and viola pedagogy with distinguished instructors including Teri Einfeldt and Ann Setzer, she enjoys teaching violin from both a musical and technical perspective and is always seeking to expand her repertory of pedagogical techniques. Prior to her current position as a faculty member at Westminster Conservatory, she has been a faculty member at several Conservatories, including the Hartt Community Division, Bergen Academy of Music and Art, and the East Brunswick Academy of Music.

Alisa Seavey Dewberry, Violin & Viola
Alisa Seavey Dewberry completed her Doctor of Musical Arts in Viola Performance with renowned pedagogue Dr. Roland Vamos at Northwestern University. She earned her Master of Music in Viola Performance from the Yale University School of Music and a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Music and English from Haverford College.
Passionate about teaching and education, Dr. Seavey started violin at the age of 5, viola at age 17, and teaches violin and viola privately to all ages from beginners to college level. She has worked as an artist-in-residence at high schools and middle schools across the country and has taught viola at Yale University and coached viola and chamber music at Northwestern University. Dr. Seavey’s students are members of local youth orchestras including Philadelphia Youth Orchestra, Greater Princeton Youth Orchestra, Bucks County Youth Orchestra, Youth Orchestra of Central NJ and Delaware County Youth Orchestra. Her students have gone on to top colleges and universities in the United States; some as music majors but many just continuing their love of music with their university orchestras.
Dr. Seavey received a 2012 City of Chicago CAAP Grant with Continuum Thr33, and as a member of the Kaze Trio, she was a semi-finalist in the 2008 Plowman Chamber Music Competition and Chamber Music Foundation of New England International Chamber Music Competition. Dr. Seavey currently performs with orchestras in New Jersey and Pennsylvania as a freelance musician and her performing career has taken her across the U.S. and abroad in Switzerland, Japan and throughout Canada both premiering works with new music ensembles, and performing with orchestras. Dr. Seavey previously taught violin and viola at Westminster Conservatory in Princeton, New Jersey. In the summer she performed with the Lancaster Festival Orchestra in Lancaster, Ohio. Her principal teachers include Roland Vamos, Mark Lakirovich, Kerri Ryan, Xiao-Fu Zhou and the late Jesse Levine.

Cellist Mimi Morris-Kim, a native of Haddonfield, New Jersey performs widely throughout the New Jersey and Pennsylvania area. This season has included concerts with the Riverside Symphonia, the Delaware Symphony and the Strauss Symphony of America. She performs chamber music with her string trio Sebastian, Rittenhouse ensembles and her husband, pianist Leonard Kim as well as with the new music ensemble Collide-O-Scope. She teachers at the Princeton String Academy and is a certified Suzuki teacher. Before moving back to NJ she lived in Michigan and was a long time member of the Ann Arbor Symphony. She also frequently performed with Woodward Corridor ensembles and Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings. She holds a doctorate in music performance from the University of Michigan, a masters from the University of Minnesota and an undergraduate degree in cello performance from Rice University in Houston. She has attended some of the most prestigious summer music festivals in the United States, including Music Academy of the West, Blossom Festival and Kneisel Hall.

Established in 1970, Westminster Conservatory is the community music school of Westminster College of the Arts of Rider University. Welcoming young musicians of all ages, skill levels, instrument preferences, and economic backgrounds, Westminster Conservatory provides focused one-on-one lessons in a musical environment close to you. In addition, the Conservatory offers a wide range of classes and performing ensembles to engage every student, from the beginner to young maestros, regardless of age. Some classes are intended as an introduction to music and require no previous experience while others are designed to complement private instruction.
The early childhood department at Westminster specializes in bringing developmentally appropriate music instruction to children from 14 months to 8 years of age. We believe that joyful music experiences are vital to the development of the whole child and strive to nurture natural ability, curiosity, and love of music.
Particularly gifted students have the opportunity to join the Conservatory's Honors Music Program, which offers a comprehensive curriculum designed toward mastering total musicianship.
Westminster Conservatory of Music is a nationally recognized institution, maintaining active membership in the National Guild for Community Arts Education. The Conservatory joined the National Guild as a provisional member in 1983 and was granted full membership in 1986.
