Internship: Tree planting/ Nursery Care/ Invasive Removal Requirments: Required to lift and carry 50 lbs and hike into the forest. Spend time in hot/cold conditions. Must be at least 16 years of age.

Trail Monitor: What could be more fun than hiking through forest trails and getting service hour credit for it? Walk FoHVOS preserves. Report any fallen trees, and move loose rocks or branches from the path if they are trip hazards on various trails throughout Hopewell Valley. Enjoy the fresh air and make your own hours! Requirements: Enjoy being outdoors, be responsible.

Internship: This is a field-based internship with an intensive focus on habitat restoration through invasive plant removal and native replantings. There is also a focus on ecological monitoring as well, including kestrel and bluebird box monitoring, rare plant mapping, & deer population, and herbivory studies. This internship program can be fairly intensive at times, sometimes requiring long days in the hot summer sun while other days we may be in the office making maps or signs.

Summer Opportunities
AmeriCorps Service Position (One Year) – Trenton Climate Corps
ISLES seeks individuals who are passionate about environmental justice and community development to serve as Climate Corps Members for a year-long term. In this position, you will be a part of the Trenton Climate Corps (TCC), and complete service projects both inside and outside. TCC is a supportive program for training and employing Trenton community members in climate resilience and green infrastructure skills, with the goal of creating a rich network of environmental stewards with the power and skills to improve Trenton for current and future generations. The projects for the yearlong service term require the ability to work independently, problem solve, and evaluate situations and adjust accordingly. Projects outside require physical labor and are generally related to urban agriculture or urban forestry. Indoor projects require leadership and organization and are generally related to preparing projects/events, writing assignments, and basic budgeting. Successful candidates will have the chance to complete certifications, have access to all Isles financial and personal development programs, and learn different skills in the many sustainability related fields. With support from Climate Corps staff, the yearlong leadership positions support the larger Climate Corps crew while also leading independent service projects/events. This position will be full-time, year-round, with program development and implementation responsibilities. We seek a collaborative and supportive candidate who has a proven track record of working with and motivating urban youth, and who is well connected in the Trenton community. Qualified candidates will have the opportunity to join a dynamic and highly accomplished team at one of the most innovative and successful nonprofit organizations in the region. The position requires strong organizational and leadership skills, and exceptional skill at motivating youth.

Student Climate & Conservation Congress
Sc3 continues to be a unique environmental student leadership training partnership between the Green Schools Alliance and the US Fish and Wildlife Service and is designed to empower attending students to develop their own environmental passion, action, and voice through peer-to-peer collaborative interaction. Since 2008, Sc3 recognizes and honors distinguished high school students who are, or aspire to become, climate & conservation catalysts in their schools and communities. Sc3 has committed to an exceptional week-long student-centered program of learning with faculty mentors and renowned experts. Through discussion, networking, strategic planning, and hands-on experience, high school students inspire and empower themselves to be a part of a generation that will actively shape a just and sustainable environmental future. Sc3 takes place at the National Conservation Training Center (NCTC). Located in West Virginia, along the Potomac River, the state-of-the-art NCTC campus comprises a little over 100 acres adjacent to 400 acres of natural habitat. There is no other facility in the United States that rivals the place, purpose, and experience of the National Conservation Training Center (NCTC). We do not limit the number of students who may attend from any one school. Scholarships are available. Requirements: 9th-12th grade.
