We help students get on track and stay on track when things come up that might create barriers to success in school.

Why do I work in a middle school?
Middle School students are the finest of teachers. They act as mirrors that constantly and consistently challenge my approach, beliefs and curiosity about the world I live in. As a lifelong learner I continue to be challenged and learn from each interaction that I am fortunate to have with them. It is a privilege to serve our student centered community each day.

Why do I work in a middle school?
I have always enjoyed middle school and working with young adolescents, because at this age, there is a vast amount of growth in a student’s understanding of the world around them and their role in it, which includes their impact on themselves and others. As an administrator, so far, I have enjoyed building relationships with staff and students and developing routines and structures that allow for the success and safety of all.

Why do I work in a middle school?
"Middle School is a time of incredible growth, academically and personally, for students; this happens through success, failure, and, most importantly, effort. The key is to focus on students' effort, which will lead to increased learning and growth from successes and failures; the highs and lows of success and failure are fleeting, but the effort we put in is never-ending."

This is my sixth year of school nursing and my fifth year within the district. My first year, 21/22, was at the high school and I was at Moretown elementary for the last three years and this will be my first year at Crossett Brook.
I am originally from South Dakota and joined the Coast Guard a few years after I got out of high school and ended up being transferred to Burlington and that’s where I’ve been ever since. After I got out of the military, I decided that nursing would be a good route for me to go and I did my undergraduate degree at Norwich university and went back and got a masters in nursing education at Norwich as well.
I live in Hinesburg with my wife, Jessica, my son Zachary, who is 15 and a sophomore at CVU and our dog Lola. I have a daughter, Mia, who is 18 and a freshman at Appalachian State in Boone, North Carolina.
During the spring, summer, and fall you will typically find me on a golf course somewhere usually Cedar Knoll. During the winter I do night skiing at Bolton Valley mostly but we spend a lot of our time carrying Zac around to different hockey tournaments.
My philosophy for school nursing is a healthy child is a well rounded and educated child. If they come to school well rested, well nourished, and ready to go we have better outcomes. I also believe in making sure that we have preventative care such as dental concerns, vision concerns, and hearing concerns taken care of as well. I also feel that a child’s good mental health is one of the greatest things that they can have.
