CLINTON J. WASHINGTON III is a current student at the University of Texas at Austin pursuing a Master of Music degree in Percussion Performance. While at the University of Texas, Mr. Washington is the director of The Pans of Texas steel pan ensemble. In this role, he coaches undergraduate students to perform at a high level while also understanding the historical basis of the steel pan culture. The Pans of Texas regularly performs across the Austin area as a gigging ensemble.
Mr. Washington holds a bachelor’s degree from Furman University, where he double majored in Music Performance and Information Technology. Following his time at Furman, he obtained a Master of Music degree in Musicology from Florida State University (FSU), where he wrote a thesis on how the American music industry's perception of genre affects artists, graded various music courses, and taught individual lectures.
In addition to his teaching experience, Mr. Washington has performed in many ensembles throughout his academic career, including – but not limited to – Furman University’s Symphonic Band, Orchestra, and Percussion Ensemble; FSU's Wind Ensemble, Brazilian Ensemble, and Steelpan Ensemble; and UT Austin's Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, Percussion Ensemble, and New Music Ensemble.
In his free time, Mr. Washington likes to produce and record music, make banana pudding, and watch movies (specifically Marvel). He was also born and raised in South Carolina and enjoys spending time exploring various trails to walk and run.
