SF MOMA STUDY TRIP

Ms. G with 2023-2024 Advance Art students

Another amazing study trip to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art! After many years, the Chavez Advance Art students made it back to downtown S.F., exploring the Yerba Buena Gardens and the SF MoMa galleries.

It was an exciting day engaging with contemporary art, learning from tour guides, and connecting with peers. Chavez Cheetahs were at their best! Go Cheetahs!

BBBB ART SHOW

A special thanks to Geoff Landreau, Joe Mielke, and the Sun Gallery for the opportunity to be a part of the show for the 2nd year,

On Saturday, January 14th 2023, Chavez students and their families enjoyed a rainy day in an art gallery.

Although it was raining cats and dogs, families and students came through to check out the annual Build a Better Birdhouse Battle art show. Chavez students created nature drawings, while Tennyson and Mount Eden high school students created fantastical sculptures.

It was an amazing exhibit, showcasing HUSD students' talent and creativity!

Hello everyone!

I invite you to check out our Cheetahs' artworks! It's been a busy year, full of learning and creativity! Our young artists came back strong from distance learning.  They surpassed all of my expectations and made amazing art. I'm so proud of them, for their resilience, hard work, and endless creativity!

This school year has been especially engaging and important. As my students and I kicked off our first year participating in the CELI (Climate Empowerment Learning Initiative). In the process, I've developed four new units related to climate change, it's negative impact and solutions that empower individuals. Note that we also focused on showcasing the talents of female artist of color, as a way to bring fresh multicultural perspectives in the classroom. It's all been very exciting and I'm pleased to share my students' artworks with you!

" Art has the power to transform, to illuminate, to educate, inspire, and motivate."

TARSILA DO AMARAL INSPIRED ARTWORK

These are a series of landscape paintings inspired by female Brazilian painter Tarsila do Amaral. This project asked students to think of and paint their "Dream Landscapes," ones that they would protect at all cost.

LILLIAN BLADES ASSEMBLAGES

In this lesson, we studied talented female artist of color Lillian Blades. Students bring in aspects of their cultural heritage, identity, and community with this project called "Mi Gente." The My People Art Project  shows intricate, meaningful pieces that showcases 3 dimensional collages, with photos of family members, heroes, and friends. All of the assemblages are made of fabric scraps and thrifted items that would otherwise end up in a landfill. The pieces highlight the value of Art and the important role it can play in students' lives. Art is a vehicle to discover one's identity and to learn new concepts, in this case, environmental issues and solutions.
