We know that students are coming to school juggling so much whether it’s stress from academics, finances, body image, racism, health, sexual identity exploration, and the list goes on. These stressors can impact students from being able to learn and enjoy their time while at school. A wellness center will help alleviate some of that pressure our students are facing, and provide resources and education to students throughout the year on a variety of issues. The drop in space has multiple areas where students can rest and use any art supplies to help regulate and relax during your day. We also have an extensive library on a variety of wellness topics.
Kim Harris, Wellness Coordinator
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and provide individual and group counseling at Healdsburg High School. Additionally, I oversee therapists in training and offer drop in support to students in crisis or distress as well as develop community partnerships to bring more support onto our campus. Christina and I work collaboratively on navigating the day to day operations within the Wellness Center drop in space. It is rewarding to see students leave the Wellness Center feeling better than when they arrived and helping teens increase their resiliency!
I was born and raised in Sonoma County and enjoy giving back to the community that helped raise me. I enjoy beekeeping, hiking, reading mystery or historical fiction novels, and spending time with my friends and family in my spare time.
Christina Valencia, Wellness Outreach Specialist
I am a Wellness Outreach Specialist supporting students in the drop in space at the wellness center. I help connect students with resources and provide a supportive environment where they can feel heard and cared for. As a Healdsburg High School alum, it’s especially meaningful to be working at the school I once attended. In my spare time I enjoy cooking, watching Disney movies, and spending time with my family.
"There can be a lot of chaotic things going on in the lives of students outside of school. Even if it’s a ten or 15 minute conversation during the day, it’s important that they know we can be that safe landing place for them" -Kim Harris, Wellness Coordinator
Our Wellness Youth Council (WYC) is a group of students that are passionate about learning and promoting Wellness around campus. The WYC provides input on school and community issues relating to health and wellness, and provides feedback to ensure that Wellness services and programs are inclusive of students from all backgrounds, cultures, identities, and groups on campus.
“We [The Wellness Youth Council] help spread awareness towards mental health and help spread positivity across campus”
- Perla Perez Gopar, Student
