Welcome to my science website!

Here, I will share some of the things I am learning in 8th grade science.

Our monthly goals will also  be described. The goal for August and September was curiosity. Activities that we did for that were a microscopy lab, a Wonder Journal, water testing, a cicada lab, and a Hungry Hungry Sphero Challenge. My favorite was either the water testing or the Hungry Hungry Sphero Challenge.

Update for October, November & December

For me what I feel worked best for me was book-creator, key-notes, and taking notes in class, or for homework. I feel that these worked best for me because it was more in depth and hands on which I felt better helped me understand it. When we did the earthquake project, I felt it helped  me to visualize better of what happens during an earthquake, and the intensity of the waves. Also, when we had to build our own house that could withstand the earthquake that helped me to learn more about earthquakes and what can help a house become safer and more stable during an earthquake. When we take notes in class or for homework over a video  for me it helps me pay better attention since I have to take notes. Plus, when note cards are assigned for homework I feel that I get a better understanding on the words since I have to read over them, write down the definition, and draw a picture to represent what the word means. All of those helped me better understand everything we have learned so far this year!

Updates for January, February & March

These past three months have been very interactive and fun! Three of my favorite activities that we did were the stream table, the Van de Graaf generator, and the book creator. The stream table we used to look at how rivers weathered and eroded their way into the dirt. The Van de Graaf generator, we used to look at the electric waves and how static electricity, and really all types of electricity traveled through different objects, and how you had to be standing on something that acts as an insulator not a conductor. And lastly, my favorite was the book creator. The book creator helped me to better understand how electricity and magnetism worked. These all were very hands on projects that helped me to better understand these lessons.

Updates for April and May

These past two months have been very fun and interactive! Three of my favorite activities that we did were frogbit notes and project, water quality infographic project, and punnett square practice  questions. For the frogbit notes and project, we took notes by using our own research, then checked them using Mrs. Lacrosse's notes to make sure we had everything we needed, and for the project portion we had the choice of if we preferred to do an infographic or a building one. I did the infographic and designed a bumper sticker which helped me to better understand the topic. Also, the water quality infographic helped me to better know all the terms since i had to draw pictures and add diagrams and information about each term. Having  to draw a picture to describe a word helped me understand them since i could use context clues and use the image. Lastly, the punnett square practice questions helped me understand how to use them when needed, like on the state test, and any science content checks i had.

my thoughts on 8th grade

My 8th grade science class was probably one of my favorite science classes I've ever had! I really enjoyed all the hands on projects and being able to use the iPads as much as we did this year.  My favorite things we did this year were all the infographics and projects we did. But, my least favorite thing we had to do this year was probably the state tests. I am ready to learn anything else in science, but i'm especially excited to learn about the human anatomy. Overall Mrs. Lacrosse's science class was very enjoyable.
