Welcome RT 4.pdf

Welcome to my science website

Here I will share some of the things that I am learning in 8th grade science.

Our monthly goals will also be described. The goal for August and September was curiosity. Activities that we did for this were our Wonder Journals, the cicada lab, water quality testing, the microscopy lab, and our Hungry Hungry Sphero challenge. My favorite was the Hungry Hungry Sphero challenge

Update for october, November, and december

October, November, and December has been filled with tons of fun projects and activities! Some activities include: Geologic time period walk outside, water testing, and Hexagonal thinking activities. I really enjoyed the water testing. I liked going outside, and working together to make sure our environment has safe water. The geological time period walk made me realize how old the Earth really is. Along with that, we made a project on the different rocks found in the different time periods on Earth. My favorite project was the stop motion video I made on Earths formation. After doing these activities, I realized that I still wasn't doing my best on the test and quizzes taken in class. I need to improve on  my test taking ability, and note taking, so I can study more, and get better grades on quizzes and tests.

Update for January, february and march

Our class has been keeping busy in January, February, and March! Some activities and projects that we did include: Build a launcher challenge, stream table, and Van de graaf generator. During these activities, I realized that I learn better with hands on activities. The build a launcher challenge was fun. We had limited materials to make a launcher, and shoot a target. The stream table was a good demonstration on how rivers and streams are created. My favorite activity was the Van de graaf generator. There was so much energy in the generator, that when I put my hands on it, my hair stood up! These activities helped me  get a better understanding of the topics we learned about.

Update for April And May

April and May has been very fun in science class. Some activities we did were the rock pocket mouse project, the water quality infographic project, and the frogbit project. My favorite one of these was the frogbit project. We had to build a design to help clear frogbit out of the water. We had many trials and errors during this project, but we ended up building a pretty cool design. I learned a lot in these past two months, and Im sad that the year is soon coming to an end.

Final thoughts on 8th grade science

I really enjoyed science class this year. We did many activities, labs and projects. I liked the outdoor activities we did in the beginning of the year like the water quality testing and the geological time period walk. Throughout the year I realized that I learn better when doing more hands on projects. I remember the content better, and enjoy it. I also really liked the note taking with the videos. The one thing I didnt really love all that much was the gizmos. I didn't really learn a lot from them, and they took a lot of time to complete. One thing I would like to learn more about in the future is outer space. There's so much more to learn. Each planet is a whole new world waiting to get explored. All in all, I loved science, and learned so much. I know I will take the knowledge I learned, and keep it for years to come.
