Welcome RH 2.pdf

Welcome to my website!

Here, I will share some of the things I am learning in 8th grade science.

Our monthly goals will also be described. The goal for August and September was curiosity. Activities that we did for this were a microscopy lab, cicada lab, Hungry Hungry Sphero challenge, water quality testing, and Wonder Journals.

My favorite was the Hungry Hungry Sphero challenge.

Update for October, November and December

Throughout these past 3 months, we have done lots of different experiments and challenges. My favorite project we did was explaining the formation of Earth. I enjoyed this because me and my partner created a video and it was fun to make. I've enjoyed using apps like Book Creator, Keynote, and the Paper app. I like doing different building challenges in groups, and hope we can do more. I hope to improve my building skills. Overall, during these past 3 months in science we have done many fun projects and I hope  to do more!

Update for January, February, March

In these past 3 months, we have learned and experimented with lots of new things. One of my favorite things we did was using the Van de graaf generator. This was a great model when learning about electricity and shock, and it was fun to experiment with friends. I also enjoyed using Newton's Cradle, I think it was pretty cool to see how it works and how each ball always comes back no matter how many you pull back. Lastly, I liked learning about magnetism and electricity, and utilizing the magnet stations.

Update for April and May

Over these past 2 months, we have done lots of fun activities. We have done lots of different labs, gizmos, and projects. These covered information about water quality, alien genetics, rock pocket mouse evolution, and more. We more recently in May have learned about genetics, and dealing with Punnett squares and other fun methods used to identify different genetic traits. We also just did a project dealing with Frogbit and learned a lot about how much it impacts our ecosystem.

Final thoughts on 8th Grade Science

This year in 8th grade science was a very fun yet different year. It was a great experience to do different projects, labs, and engineering challenges rather than just being a boring class. Some of my favorite things were different engineering challenges such as using the Spheros, and I also enjoyed learning about genetics. One thing I did not enjoy as much was all of the notes and lectures, I personally enjoy more hands on learning. I would like to enjoy learning more about genetics, and possibly enter a career field dealing with it some day in the future.
