Welcome MT 2.pdf

Welcome to my website

Here, I will share some of the things i am learning in 8th grade science

Our monthly goals will also be described. The goal for august and September was curiosity. Activity's that we did for this were a microscopy lab, cicada lab, hungry hungry sphero challenge, water quality testing, and wonder journal.

My favorite was the water testing because we got to do a lot of different things for it and got to go down to the lake.

update for October, November, & December

I liked learning about earths formation, tectonic plates and earthquakes because it was easy to remember how to earth worked and moved. I thought it was cool to see how the earth was formed. I liked doing the different tectonic plate models out of play-doh. And the sketch notes helped me visually understand how earth was formed.  The last thing I liked was going outside, and making the sidewalk a timeline, I thought it was a nice active activity.

update for January, Febuary, and March

During these months I liked doing the book creator on electricity  and magnetism, learning about Ohio's toxic spill and the stream table. The book creator had many readings and visual things to look at that made sense, it is also a great way to study magnetism and electricity because the information is clear and all together. I liked learning about the toxic spill in Ohio because its something that is happening in our world where we live. And finally liked the stream table because it was an easy way to see where the streams went and how they looked when there were rocks and things stopping the flow.

Update for April and May

In April we did a Rock pocket mouse project about how The rock pocket mouse fur color has changed over the years to blend in with the environment around them. We also learned about evolution over time.  We learned meiosis is a type of cell division that creates egg and sperm cells, and mitosis is when a cell duplicates and splits into two identical daughter cells. For homework, we had an alien gizmo where we had to breed aliens to make different-looking children. We also learned how to use punnet squares to predict genotypes for cross-breeding. As well as a chicken lab. One day we went to Lake Front Park and did water quality testing and looked at the water over 3 years. The last thing we did was make a frog-bit infographic. We learned about How frob-bit is invading Ohio and how people can help stop the spread.

Final Thoughts on 8th Grade Science

I enjoyed making a model out of playdoh to show convection, divergent, and transform movement. I would like to learn more about how animals adapt to their environment.
