Welcome Page

Welcome to My Science Website!

Here, I will share some of the things that I am learning in 8th grade science.

Our monthly goals will also be described. The goal for August and September was curiosity. Activities that we did for this were our cicada lab, Wonder Journals, Hungry Hungry Sphero challenge, the microscopy lab, and water quality testing.

My favorite was the water quality testing, it was good to be outside by the lake!

This is my favorite sketch-note so far! It was a hard topic to understand and there is a lot of information to it!

Updates for October, November, and December

Over the course of these 3 months, we have done many projects and activities. Some projects we have done are Earthquake Seismic-safe houses, several sketch-notes on various topics, and things like water quality testing. I love doing sketch-notes and water testing. The thing I like most about sketch-notes is how creative it is. Something I like about water testing is getting to go down by the lake and seeing all of it, and how we have a great lake so close to us. Something I think I could improve on is my quizzes. I get good scores and I understand the topics, but maybe not as much as I could if I studied more.

Updates for January, February, and March

In these 3 months, I enjoyed doing some projects. These projects are building a launcher, experimenting on film canisters, and using a stream table. We built launchers with set materials from our teacher. We tested them out and it worked pretty well! When we experimented on film canisters, we put water and alka-seltzer tablets in the film canister and measured how high they shot up. That was my favorite one. Finally, I liked looking at the stream table because it showed how rivers carve out their path and grow over time.

Updates for April-May 2023

In these months, we did many projects learning about life sciences. We learned a lot about cells, DNA, and reproduction. It started off with Rock Pocket Mouse projects to learn about evolution and natural selection, and then evidence for evolution. Then we started genetics with learning about Mitosis and Meiosis, Alien Genetics Gizmos, Punnett squares, and Chickenology labs. Then, we did water quality testing infographics and Frogbit notes and a bumper sticker.

Final Thoughts

Over the course of the year, I've enjoyed skecthbotes the most. It's fun because you can stay in touch with a creative side while learning effectively. The things I've enjoyed the least is watching videos, it's not that engaging for me and I don't learn as well from it. I would like to learn more about life sciences and DNA in the future in my science classes.
