Welcome KS 4.pdf

Welcome to my science website!

Here I will share some of the things that I am learning in 8th grade science.

Our monthly goals will also be described. the goal for August and September was curiosity. Activities that we did for this were our Wonder Journals, the cicada lab, water quality testing, the microscopy lab, and our Hungry Hungry Sphero challenge. My favorite was the water quality testing because it was nice to take a walk outside and on the beach and it was fun to see how healthy our local water is.

Update for October, November, & December

I am really enjoying science class so far. I love doing all of the hands on activities and getting to work in groups. One of my favorite things to do is sketchnotes because I really get to share my knowledge and creativity in a fun way! One thing I want to work on in science is studying for quizzes. Not saying I have done bad, but I would like to get more 100%. One of my favorite projects we did was the plate tectonics sketchnote. I loved getting to talk about all the different boundaries and hot spots and things like that. I am very excited to continue and grow to learn more about the history of our world.

Update for January, February, & March

In science, we have been working on a lot of hands on demonstrations, experiments, book creators, and sketchnotes. One of my favorite activities I did was the film canister experiment because it was cool to see how the different sizes of the alkaselzer tablets shot the cap off the canister. Also, the results shocked me. Another one of my favorites was the Forces and Motion Sketchnote because I enjoyed getting to be creative. Finally, I really enjoyed doing the Science in the GIFS because I liked how I could kind of be free with it.

Updates for April & May

In science, we have done many gizmos, sketchnotes and regular notes, labs, wated videos, infographics, and content checks. One of my favorite projects we did was the sketchnote on frogbit because this was a topic that I had never learned about before and I was excited to learn about it. Another one of my favorites was the water quality infographic sketchnote because I really enjoyed just getting to do whatever I wanted with it and not having a set prompt to follow.

Final Thoughts on 8th Grade Science

This year I really enjoyed how we did so many hands on activities. That is how I learn and I learn best that way. I also enjoyed how many sketchnotes we did because I feel so relaxed and creative when I do those. I also love being able to put my creativity onto a sketchnote and be able to show everyone that. This year there was also things I didn't like such as, when we would have to just listen and take notes all class. That might work for some people, but for me I prefer a hands on lab or engineering design challenge. In the future I want to learn more about invasive species. Such as, what they are and how we can prevent them from spreading.
