Welcome To My Website 🪴

Here, I will share some of the things I am learning in 8th grade.

Our monthly goals will also be described. The goal for August and September was curiosity. Activities that we did for this were a microscopy lab, cicada lab, a Hungry Hungry Sphero Challenge, water quality testing, and wonder journals.

My favorite activity was the microscopy lab. I enjoyed it a lot because it was fascinating to see how close up you can observe things like moss, plants, and tiny isopods under a microscope. It was such a cool and entertaining experience.

Update for October, November, and December:

I enjoy doing the projects a lot. Most of them are really engaging and I enjoy the amount of freedom and creativity I get. Science notes are also very hands-on. I feel like I learn more with that type of visual note taking.  Quizzes are also less stress for me than big tests every unit. However, I don't prefer the hexagon activities, making connections can be hard sometimes with such little context. However, I did like the Geologic time walk since it was engaging and less stressful. Water testing is an enjoyable experience and is calming  in some sort of way.  Quakefeed is also an interesting software that I enjoy looking at from time to time. I have been prepared for class most of the time and the organization of the materials is not too complicated. I think that hands on projects are what work the best for me. I enjoy drawing things from science a lot. On the other hand, I could get better at note taking.

Update for January, February, and March:

During January through March, we worked on a lot of interesting projects and assignments. Science in the GIFs was a new experience and it was slightly difficult to be able to find scientific explanations for cartoons. Working with the toxic spill that happened in East Palestine, Ohio was an eye opening experience of just how much damage that is being done to Earth currently. We also worked with a van de graaf generator in  our static electricity unit and some people  in the room were given the opportunity to build up static electricity and shock the others. Overall, it seems that this time period taught me a lot having to do with physics, electricity, and magnetism.

Updates for April and May

In the last two months, we had a lot of interesting lessons and projects. For example, a project relating to frogbit and the removal of it. We also finalized our water quality testing data and made an info-graphic about it. We also touched on the evidence of evolution and genetics. We did an activity where we explored the evolution of a chicken, The evolution of rock pocket mice, a Gizmo on alien genetics, and we learned about Punnett Squares. I enjoyed the frogbit project the most, but the rest of the projects were still enjoyable.

Final thoughts on 8th grade science:

Overall, 8th grade science has taught me a lot through the plentiful amounts of projects and hands-on activities. I enjoyed doing engineering challenges the most, while i liked notes the least. I would like to learn more about life science in the future.
