Welcome AB 5.pdf

Welcome to my science website!

Here, I will share some of the things that I am learning in 8th grade science.

Our monthly goals will also be described. The goal for August and September was curiosity.  Activities that we did for this were our cicada lab, Wonder Journals, Hungry Hungry Sphero challenge, the microscopy lab, and water quality testing. My favorite was the microscopy lab.

Updates for october, November, and December

I really liked the projects we did, they were really fun to make/do! We also did this Geologic time period walk outside, it was fun! We got to see how things we thought were a super long time(they still are) how close they really are to the present day compared to when the Earth first had life/when it was first created. I also got to do water quality testing, it was really calming and I liked being near the water. It really fun as well so that added to it! My favorite one is probably going to be water quality testing. It was just a great way to kinda get a break and cool down a bit.

Updates for January, Febuary, and March

These past months were really fun! We Built a launcher with a paper cup, rubber, a balloon, and a couple of other things. It was fun to test out and make. We also did a few experiments that we could choose from. I did a film canister experiment! What we did for that was we had a little film canister and filled it up a little bit with water, and then put a tablet in(I forget what the tablet was). Then we closed the lid and saw how high it went, it was kind of like when you put mentos in coke.  We also did a few sketch notes, one was on forces and motion, and the other was on static charge.

Updates for April and May

To start we did a Frog bit project. Frog bit is a plant that covers the surface of the water blocking sunlight, and is an invasive species here in Huron. So, our project was to find a way to clear the Frog bit. My design didn't fully work, it needed a few adjustments to work properly but we didn't have time to do that. We also made a water quality infographic. So, we chose a spot or turbidity, pH, iron, etc. I covered the huron boat basin from 2021-2023. Next we did chickenology which we covered the fact that chickens are decendents of dinosaurs. We did a lot of Punnett square practice, and it was pretty easy to do once you figure it out. We also did Alien Genetics which was just seeing what an Alien offspring would look like depending on the Alien parents. Then we did a station where we would walk around writing notes for evidence on how animals evolved.  we also took notes and did some activities on meiosis and mitosis. Finally, we made either a sketchnote, video, visual representation, brochure, or comic. I did a comic on how the rockpocket mouse evolved and the land changed to help that evolution.

Final thought for 8th grade science

I enjoyed what we did, and I would like to do similar things in the future. I'm happy I was able to attend this class. That is all I have for my final thoughts.
