The Learning Educator

Reflections
Hello and welcome to my blog, which reflects my journey as I continue to learn, grow, and explore the intersection of literacy and digital media. As a teacher and lifelong learner, I'm involved in two significant learning experiences: the Catholic Principals of Ontario Principal Qualification Course and my Masters of Education in Literacy Education at the University of British Columbia.
Both experiences are shaping my understanding of literacy in our evolving digital world. I'm passionate about literacy, as well as the ability to read and write, and as the foundation for exploring and engaging with various texts, digital media, and educational tools. The digital aspect fascinates me as it opens new doors for creativity, communication, and learning—both inside and outside the classroom. In this blog, I'll share my latest learnings from these courses, including the insights and challenges I encounter.
Whether you're an educator, a student, or simply someone interested in the world of education and literacy, I invite you to join me as I explore new ideas, best practices, and innovative approaches to learning. This blog is a space for sharing knowledge, reflecting on my journey, and hopefully, sparking meaningful conversations about education in the digital age.
Thank you for joining me. I look forward to connecting with you through my reflections and stories.

As educators and leaders in our Catholic school community, we are responsible for creating a learning environment where every student has equal access to educational resources. Technology has become a critical part of our student's lives but has also brought about new challenges and disparities. Today, I'll discuss the key issues surrounding digital inequities and how we, as leaders, can address them to ensure a more equitable learning experience.
The Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board (the Board) believes that the appropriate use of all information and communication technologies must reflect Catholic teaching and support students' academic, cultural, and spiritual growth. As a Catholic learning community, we commit to using these and all technologies in a manner that is consistent with Catholic Social Teaching.

In today's educational landscape, the Tech Innovation Showcase stands out as a symbol of innovation and creativity, perfectly aligned with the Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board's strategic plan, "On Fire with the Spirit." This event is not just about technology; it's about igniting a passion for innovation and inspiring students, families, staff, and parish members to embrace the possibilities of the digital age. By providing a space where cutting-edge technology meets faith-based learning experiences, the Showcase fosters a deep connection to Catholic values and the Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations.
At its core, the Showcase reflects our commitment to addressing societal changes and technological advancements, serving as a testament to our dedication to shaping the future of education.
As the landscape of education continues to evolve in the digital era, the role of educators transcends traditional boundaries. Today, educators are not just disseminators of knowledge but facilitators of innovation and digital leadership. This blog post will explore the transformative power of coding integration, emphasizing the importance of equitable access to resources and strategies for fostering a culture of digital and equity leadership within schools.
Empowering Educators with Coding
Coding, once considered a niche skill, has now emerged as a critical competency for students in the 21st century. Platforms like Scratch (Jr) for Primary students and Code.org for Junior/Intermediate students have revolutionized how coding is taught in schools.
In today's dynamic educational realm, the fusion of artificial intelligence (AI) and cutting-edge technologies has become increasingly prevalent. As educational leaders, we must comprehend these innovations and leverage their potential in shaping the future of teaching and learning. In this blog post, I'll embark on a journey sharing my experiences with ChatGPT, an AI-driven tool, and delve into its profound impact on my teaching methodologies. From integrating literacy seamlessly across diverse subjects to employing ChatGPT for assessment purposes, I'll illustrate specific instances where AI has revolutionized my instructional strategies. Furthermore, I'll draw connections between my encounters with ChatGPT and the guiding principles outlined in an infographic, underscoring the significance of prioritizing human involvement, aligning AI models with educational objectives, and fostering trust in AI systems. Additionally, I'll explore my interactions with ChatGPT on the theme of "Leaders as System Designers," unveiling intriguing insights offered by AI. Lastly, I'll address concerns regarding the responsible integration of AI in education for teachers, students, and parents while reflecting on my evolving skills in navigating this transformative journey. Join me as we navigate the crossroads of AI and education, seizing opportunities and tackling challenges as educational leaders.
Digital citizenship is integral to our students' holistic development in today's interconnected world. Catholic educational leaders guide our students spiritually and academically and foster a positive online presence that aligns with our faith’s values.
To this end, I’ve developed three essential infographics that form the foundation of our Digital Discipleship Agreement:
