Water Quality Testing

Collecting Water to Test

We tested water on Friday, September 15th, 2023. Testing occured at four different sites: the Huron Boat Basin, the Huron River, the Washburn Ditch, and Lake Front Park beach. We tested the turbidity, pH level, dissolved oxygen, and for contaminants. As the teacher, I mainly helped get people started on testing. The air temperature was between 13.7 C and 21.9 C depending on the time of day that we tested. The wind speed was between 0.1 and 3.3 m/s throughout the day. It shifted from a south direction to east to northeast throughout the day. The water temp was between 19 and 22 Celsius. There were no major things to notice on the water that caused us concern. The pH levels were all right around 7 which is safe. The turbidity levels were between 13.9 and 37 NTU. These are also safe levels. The dissolved oxygen ranged from 6.32-7.74. This is still considered safe for life in the water. Fortunately, no lead, copper, iron, or mercury was found in the water. However, unsafe levels of nitrates were found.
