Biography
Carmen Caceres is a dance artist and educator originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina. She has dedicated her career to combining the creation and production of performing arts with arts education and administration. She strongly advocates for artists' needs and is committed to enriching communities by creating accessible educational and artistic experiences that foster collaboration and inclusion.
She has been creating dance works in Argentina and New York since 2009. Her works have been presented in several venues, including the Manhattan Movement & Arts Center, Dixon Place, Green Space Studio, Triskelion Arts Center, Teatro SEA, The Mark Morris Dance Center, The Center at West Park, and the Center for Performance Research. In 2013, she founded DanceAction, a dance company that serves as a creative platform for producing performing arts works in collaboration with dancers, musicians, dramaturges, designers, and visual artists. Her works have been awarded the Brooklyn Arts Fund Community Grant, the Dance/NYC Emergency COVID-19 Grant, the City Artist Corps Grant, and the LMCC Creative Engagement Grant. Carmen also produces the DA Garden Series, a performance event held at her home-built garden dance floor, which welcomes artists from diverse disciplines to showcase short works rooted in improvisation and spontaneous composition practices.
Carmen works as a teaching artist, dance teacher, and arts education consultant for various art programs and organizations in New York City, including PS89, 92Y, the Dance Education Laboratory, and Show Kids. In the past, she has worked with several renowned organizations such as Dancewave, Casita Maria Center for Arts & Education, the Mark Morris Dance Center, the Brooklyn Arts Council, the Manhattan Kids Club, NIA, NYJTL, Broadway Babies, and many others.
As a performer and collaborator, she worked with artists Ines Armas, Anabella Lenzu, Katie Rose McLaughlin, Isabel Lewis, Jillian Peña, Lisa Parra, Sarah Berges, Elia Mrak, Sari Nordman, and Jody Oberfelder, among others.
Carmen’s academic background includes a BA in Dance and Education from SUNY Empire State College. She has further honed her dance skills at the renowned Merce Cunningham School, completing the Professional Training Program and multiple workshops with the Cunningham Trust. In her hometown, she graduated from the National School of Dance and studied Dance Composition at the National University of the Arts (UNA). She completed the DEL Institute Teacher Certificate Program and the DEL Facilitators In Training Program. She is currently pursuing her MA in Dance Education at Hunter College, expecting to graduate in the Fall of 2026.
