Due to the COVID-19 situation, we had to change things a little last year, with our first ever Virtual Sports Day: a fantastic event that ran over four days allowing pupils in school and at home to take part when it was suitable to do so...
Although we are still experiencing the effects of the worldwide pandemic, with pupils being back in school, HBJ staff will be able to run 7 events in their “bubbles”. Pupils/parents will be able to take part in the eighth challenge, from home over the course of the week.
These challenges will start on the afternoon of Saturday 19th June and finish on the morning of Friday 25th June. This year pupils have been focussing on achieving their “Personal Best” so their best score will feed into their Gem Families total. Results will be announced in the Celebration Assembly on the afternoon of Friday 25th June.
As always pupils are encouraged to enter into the spirit of the Day/Games with face paints, coloured hair, flags and banners. A shirt in the colour of your Gem family (red, white/yellow, blue or green) would be brilliant to wear.
Be happy and stay safe!

The Cone-flip. The front person from each team runs to the first cone, and gets one try to flip it so that it lands standing up. If they manage to land it the whole team can shout out the score to keep track. After the flip, they run to the back of their line, and the next person in line runs out.
The round will last for 3 minutes and Gem Family with the greatest overall score wins.
Try this badminton juggling challenge. The Gem Family with the best juggling skills win.
Work in pairs (with someone else from another Gem family maybe) to count your best score within the two minute time limit.
Once the shuttlecock touches the floor please start your score again from zero. Submit your highest score to your teacher.
As a Gem Family, pupils will queue from the first line. They can move anywhere inside the area when it is their time to shoot as long as the order of shooters is kept the same. Remind pupils to steady themselves before they shoot to have a better chance of scoring. Another Gem Family can help keep score whilst they are waiting for their go.
How many shots/baskets can your Gem Family score in 3 minutes ?
Try this Vrikshasana or Tree Pose balance challenge. As soon as your foot leaves your standing leg or touches the floor it's the end of your attempt. If you have more than one attempt submit your best score to your teacher.
Please only submit a maximum Balance time of 5 minutes (if you can hold it that long!!)
A 30 second challenge for you to really work hard and contribute to improving your arm/leg strength as well as contributing to your Gem Families score.
For every successful bench squat or triceps-dip done, you will earn one point.
Try out this co-ordination throwing and catching challenge.
If you throw one hand to the opposite hand and catch one handed that will give you two points.
If you throw one handed and catch with the same hand or with two hands that will give you one point.
If you drop the ball within the 30 seconds reset your score back to zero. Pick it up and try again!
30 second challenge again! Skipping or Speed bouncing over a single line. One point for every successful rotation of the rope (skip) or two footed jump that is landed on each side...
If you hit yourself with the rope or don't land successfully within the 30 seconds DON'T reset your score back to zero. Pick it back up and keep going!
15 stairs = 1 floor
This is a challenge for you to try at home, whether you go it alone or in a team of up to 9 people.
Select one of the buildings (or mountains!) and challenge yourself to climb the amount of floors during this week. This challenge is for the whole HBJ (& wider) community. Challenge your parents and their work colleagues to get involved! Remember this must be done going up stairs, no counting floors on your Fitbits and smart trackers!
Over this year Hunter's Bar Juniors have put the wellbeing of all pupils (and staff) at the forefront of everything we've done.
During Our "Sports Day week" we want pupils to continue to Learn (something new), Connect (with friends and family), Take Notice (of how they are feeling-Can they recognise their zone of regulation), Give (help to others and themselves) and Be Active (to improve their physical and mental health).
These things we feel are vital, to help pupils look after themselves not only now but as they continue to grow and develop.
