Currently at Humboldt, I serve as one of two University Ombudspersons.
I have chaired the Environmental Studies Department in 2022-2023 and the Department of Politics from 2006-2011 and again from 2016-2020. I have led efforts to create environmentally-oriented curriculum that highlights the intersectional roles of power and privilege, including an interdisciplinary M.A. program on Environment and Community (for which I also served as founding coordinator from 2000-2004) and an Environmental Studies program.
I have been a steering committee member and served as advisor for the Campus Center for Appropriate Technology (CCAT) and am proud to have received Humboldt's “Advisor of the Year” award for my work with this student-driven organization. I have been an elected member of the University Senate and have chaired its University Policies Committee. I have also served on university-wide sustainability steering committee, the Humboldt Energy Independence Fund Committee, and the Cabinet for Institutional Change.
