Coming into this Humanizing Stem Online Program I was very anxious with anything having to due with google sites, slides, and others. In the past I had always created what I would call "simple" canvas pages that while having the information needed for the students to be successful, did not engage the student and let them understand who I am in the course and how I can best support them.
This opportunity has opened my eyes to the possibilities of engaging with my students. I am now much more confident in my ability to make videos (Panopto), create home pages in Canvas and engage my students in the classroom. I also believe that while I tend to engage my students in class, I have realized that primarily that has been for me to get to know them and I have always kept up a shield around myself. I believe moving forward I am more willing to let my students into my own life and the activities I take part in outside of work and within my professional career.
I am now consistently making videos, using captioning in both Panopto and YouTube. This is huge for me as this is something I never committed to before. I believe my Canvas pages will start to reflect the experiences I have had within this class and will better support the learning environment of my students.
