Welcome to the Flourishing Ally Project, an innovative initiative exploring how workplaces in Greek hospitality can create cultures of genuine support and human flourishing.
Through a prestigious Fulbright Specialist Program award, Dr. Meg Warren of Western Washington University partnered with the Human Flourishing Movement AMKE in Greece. Over a six-week residency in Athens, the project explored how organizations in Greece's dynamic and high-pressure hospitality and tourism sector can foster environments where both employees and guests truly thrive.
This initiative is supported by the Fulbright Foundation in Greece. Dr. Warren’s visit reflects the Fulbright Program’s commitment to fostering academic collaboration and meaningful exchange between Greece and the United States.
The Flourishing Ally Project explores how strengths, well-being, and allyship can come together to create more resilient, supportive, and human-centered organizations. Inspired by Greek values such as philoxenia and philotimo, the project introduces the concept of syn-eudaimonia, the pursuit of flourishing with each other and for each other. It seeks practical ways to bring syn-eudaimonia to life within workplaces, communities, and institutions. Learn more here!
During her visit to Greece, Dr. Meg Warren contributed to the Play Identity Conference in Athens, where she shared insights from her research on allyship, character strengths, and Positive Psychology. As an invited speaker and workshop facilitator, she explored how play, joy, and human connection can strengthen our capacity to support one another and respond to contemporary challenges. In collaboration with liminal, she also co-designed an experiential workshop that combined strengths-based allyship with photography, offering participants a unique opportunity to reflect on the experience of giving and receiving support.
Direct dialogue and invaluable collaboration with senior executives and leaders across the Greek hospitality industry and beyond were a cornerstone of the Flourishing Ally Project.
The conversations centered on redefining three vital pillars of contemporary workplace culture:
Work Relationships
Organizational Culture
Community Connections
The session synthesized key insights and practices developed during the six-week residency, alongside reflections from hospitality professionals and organizational leaders. Together, they highlighted meaningful, easy-to-integrate interventions and explored practical ways to foster well-being and genuine support in everyday workplace environments.
The Flourishing Ally Toolkit is the key outcome of this collaboration, translating insights from Greek hospitality organizations into practical pathways for cultivating a culture of support. It introduces concepts such as syn-eudaimonia, the idea of flourishing with and for one another, and esoteriki philoxenia, or hospitality turned inward, grounded in Positive Psychology. Designed as a hands-on resource with strategies, case examples, and ideas for well-being installations, the toolkit is created for universities, tourism bodies, and organizations in Greece and beyond.
