ʻAmaʻama are more than just delicious fish - ʻAmaʻama are a pillar of sustainability and nourishment for kanaka since the stars guided us to these abundant islands thousands of years ago. ʻAmaʻAma are vital and fundamental to loko iʻa and our ahupuaʻa. It is through sacred relationship with ʻamaʻama, kanaka understand the great diverse coastal life of Hawaiʻi. The ʻamaʻama have never forgotten their relationship with loko iʻa and they always remind us that we are blessed to witness them dance and move in the wahi pana of Waiuliʻs loko iʻa.
In honor of our cherished ʻamaʻama, Hui Hoʻoleimaluō welcomes your individual interpretation of ʻamaʻama to be included in our first community art collaboration. Each submission will be included in Hui Hoʻoleimaluōʻs first bandana print! If you were an ʻamaʻama how would you show up to the party?
