The purpose of the HSD Wellness Committee is to ensure a school environment that promotes and protects student health, well-being and ability to learn by supporting healthy eating, physical activity, and the development of healthy life habits
May’s challenge is to get you eating your fruits and vegetables! There are so many different fruits and veggies that you can try...either fresh or cooked, for breakfast, lunch or dinner. You can keep track of all the delicious fruits and veggies you eat on your weekly tracking sheets. There’s even a place for you to write a new fruit or vegetable that you have tried during the week. Have your family join in and share in the challenge. Maybe you’ll find a fruit or vegetable out there that will become your new favorite. Turn in your weekly slips on Monday or Tuesday for the amazing Wellness prizes drawn on Wednesdays each week. Here’s to eating healthier and trying new foods in May!
Monday, April 5th we will kick off our HP run club.
Students will receive lap tracking cards. Each tracking card completed equals 5 miles!
Students will run laps at recess. For each lap a student runs, he/she earns a hole punch. Once a student completes 4 laps (1 mile) he/she earns a foot charm.
When the entire card is completed, students will turn in Monday or Tuesday for a chance to win a prize on Wednesday!
We are kindly asking students to reuse any necklace chains they may have from previous years run clubs. We will supply chains for students who are unable to find their chains.
For family participation, you are welcome to log your miles on either the 50 mile or 100 mile challenge sheet located to the left. Paper copies will also be shared for students to keep at home.
This past year has been a challenge in more ways than one. We’ve worked our mind and bodies. This challenge helps you tackle both! Flexibility is the range of motion in a joint or group of joints or the ability to move joints effectively through a complete range of motion. Your goal is to move through the flexibility flow 1-2 times daily. Mark your tracker each day you complete the challenge. Turn in tracking sheet Monday or Tuesday for a chance to win a prize on Wednesday!
February's challenge is meant to WARM your heart. Since February is the month of love, we thought it would be great to have HP students, families, and staff show that love by doing acts of kindness everyday! These can be small acts or big ones. You can keep track of all the acts of kindness you do by coloring in one piece of the word February for each act you do AND by coloring in the heart on the weekly sheets. By the end of the month, you will have done 28 act...wow! You can use the suggestions given in the packet or come up with your own. Have your family join in and share the love! Turn in your weekly slips on Monday or Tuesday for the amazing Wellness prizes drawn on Wednesdays each week. If you win, you will be given one big prize to share with your family and one small prize to pay it forward to someone you and your family feel deserves some sweetness in their life. Thanks for making HP and our community a loving place to be!
January’s challenge is to keep yourself hydrated with water! The goal is to drink ½ - 1 oz of water per pound you weigh. For example, if you weighed 100 lbs, you would want to drink between 50-100 ounces of water EVERY day! Bringing your own water bottle to school will help you with achieving this goal. Did you know that drinking water increases your energy and helps so you aren’t so tired? Since your brain is mostly water, drinking water helps you think, focus and concentrate better and be more alert. Have your family join in! Turn in your slips Monday or Tuesday for the amazing Wellness prizes on Wednesdays each week. Happy hydrating!!
Today starts a new month! Can you believe it is already December? Where has the time gone, and where is the snow? December's wellness activity is Be “Present” for the Holidays. Your child should come home with a new weekly wellness packet. This wellness activity entails being mindful and present in your daily lives as a family. At school, we use a variety of websites for mindfulness. You could also use Headspace, MindYeti, CosmicKids Zen Den, Smiling Mind, or Calm. Please take a moment to watch the Be “Present” for the Holidays informational video on the left.
"Planks-giving"
Since our Walk-tober wellness challenge was such a success, the HP Wellness committee has decided to continue the fun, monthly themed family fitness challenges. For November we are challenging families to do a daily plank exercise together. This month you get to set your own goal for how long you will be able to plank. Make this a fun time for the whole family. We are encouraging families to send in pictures to Linda Keech keechld@hudsonraiders.org of all the fun places you're doing your planks. Mark it on the sheet for the week, tear it off and return it on Monday or Tuesday to be entered in a drawing for an awesome family wellness prize! SO...get out there and start planking!
Hudson Prairie Student Wellness Inaugural Walk-tober!
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, we are unable to have our monthly family fit nights as in the past. We hope this will help families and students keep moving towards healthy and active lifestyles. Your family goal is to walk or run ONE mile a day. Mark it on the sheet for the week, tear off the week and return it on Monday to be entered in a drawing for an awesome family wellness prize!
Students will bring home a family recording packet. Here a link if you would like to print your own.

Our school participated in a school-wide 3-week challenge that will get students up and active throughout winter. The challenge will also encourage students to find creative ways to become active indoors or outdoors.
Each class will earn and track points for students being active throughout the challenge. Each student has the opportunity to earn 1 point per “active activity” (Recess, Extra Activity, and at Home).
The School-wide goal is based on the number of students participating and how many opportunities each student has to be active.
We look forward to kicking off our Winter PowerUp on Monday, November 26. It will help encourage students to keep moving during the cold winter months.
All families are invited to join us for our family fit night on 11/27. Complete form to the right to confirm your spot.
