1665 - Robert Hooke: coined the term cell when he looked at cork under a microscope and saw the empty spaces.
1670 - Anton van Leeuwenhoek: first too see living cells called them little animals
1838 - Matthias Schleiden: stated that all plants are composed of c ells
1839 - Theodor Schwann: stated that all animals are composed of cells
1855 - Rudolph Virchow: found that all cells come from other cells
