2024/2025 Editors
Scout Nicholson is entering her fourth and final year on The Hub. This is her first year as an editor, and she is excited to see where this year takes her! Scout originally joined The Hub to help improve her writing skills. As the years have gone by, Scout's love for journalism has grown tremendously. She continues to work hard on the newspaper to help her future career aspirations. Scout is thrilled to be an editor this year, and hopes to keep learning and become a reliable, good editor!
Throughout her time at HHS Scout has been a member of many clubs and activities. Scout has been a member of the Lady Eagles Varsity golf team for four years. She also is the Historian of NHS and French club, and the Secretary of SADD and Ecology club. Scout is also the Vice President of Drama club, where she primarily works in the sound booth. Other than that Scout is a part of Art club, English Festival, Yearbook, and the Broadcasting team. In her free time Scout loves reading, golfing, thrifting, listening to music, and hanging out with her best friends!
As a senior, Scout’s future is not too far away! Currently, Scout plans to attend the college of her choice to major in journalism. Scout hopes to eventually become a News Anchor, and work for a news or radio station. Her goals for this year are to maintain her good grades, and to earn many scholarships. She has appreciated her time working on the Hub, and is excited for the year to come!
Ayah Mufleh is a Senior at Hubbard High School and is entering her fourth year as a HUB staff member. She has always loved to express her creativity in different ways, especially through writing, and The Hub has truly allowed her to do so. Ayah loves writing in general, but she is passionate about topics relating to human rights, social issues, and the worldwide education system. She wants to continue to inform HUB readers about happenings in their school, local, and global communities.
Ayah has remained involved in a number of extracurricular activities at Hubbard. Last year, she was a member of the Student Council, SADD club, Ecology club, ASL club, as well as part of the school swim team. This year she expanded her involvement even more by taking the leadership roles of ASL club president and class vice president. In her free time, she loves to research different issues across the globe. More specifically, the humanitarian disparities happening in the Middle East - as she's of Arab descent. She prides herself in her culture and would love to see the students and community of Hubbard embrace diversity even more.
Ayah intends to graduate as a Hubbard Scholar. After graduation, she is looking forward to becoming a YSU Penguin majoring in Biology. Her ultimate goal is to attend medical school in the hopes of becoming a medical researcher.
Aubrey Middlestead is currently a junior at Hubbard High School. Since she was young she has had a passion for writing. This will be her third year with The HUB and this year she is an editor. Aubrey enjoys being on the staff because it helps her grow her writing abilities while also being able to work with a great team of writers. She is very excited to write with The Hub again this year!
Aubrey loves to keep herself busy by being involved in the Pep club, Spanish club, Drama club, SADD, SMASH, FEA, FCA, Link Crew, Yearbook Staff, and Student Council Historian. She is also the vice president of the junior class. Aubrey is a player on the Hubbard Volleyball Team and in the offseason, she plays with Mahoning Valley Premier Volleyball Club. Aubrey dances at Inspire Dance Center and during the winter months, she sings and dances with Easy Street Productions. Aubrey is employed at Parto's Golf Learning Center in the spring and summer months. Outside of that, she enjoys going to church, working out at the gym, and of course hanging out with her friends.
Looking towards her future, she wants to get inducted into the National Honors Society later this year. She also plans to continue working with Pink Lights The Way for her Pink Out Game and many more volunteering opportunities. Aubrey would also like to keep her 4.0 GPA and stay an Honor Roll student. She is not completely sure of her future plans but she knows she wants to continue her education and spend time doing things she loves.
2024/2025 Staff Writers
Addison Sanders is entering her first year as a writer for the Hub. She attends TCTC and is a part of the Digital Marketing and Management program. Addison joined the Hub to still be included in her homeschool. Addison also enjoys creative writing and pop culture topics.
Throughout her time as a student, she participates in many clubs. These clubs include the Spanish Club, Pep Club, and Ecology Club. Addison also has been involved with the Lady Eagles golf team. Upon moving to TCTC, she included herself in a club called BPA. (Business Professionals of America) She works at Avalon Squaw Creek and has been there since April. During her free time, she enjoys writing, hanging out with her friends, shopping, and listening to music!
After Addison graduates from TCTC and Hubbard High School, she plans to enroll at Northwood University and major in Marketing with a minor in Digital Marketing. She hopes to continue with her good grades and maintain her 4.0 GPA. She also plans to get her degree and begin traveling the world, starting with a trip to Belgium, where she plans to stay for a few years and endorse a career in the marketing field.
Ace Johnson is a sophomore at Hubbard High, and is currently in his first year writing for The HUB. He decided to begin writing for The HUB because of his love for writing and journalism. He is thrilled to begin working with all of the amazing students.
While working on The HUB, he is also involved in numerous other activities. The 2024 season is his second with the HHS Flagline, adding to the list of his activities. He is currently Co-Secretary of the Drama Club and is rehearsing for his 3rd performance with the Drama Club. Outside of school, he is an active participant with the Youngstown Playhouse. One of his more notable performances being the White Rabbit in Alice in Wonderland. While performing, he also serves as the Vice President of the sophomore class, and is a representative in the Student Council. On top of this, he is a member of the Spanish, Pep, and Ecology Clubs. Ace loves being involved in the school and having the opportunity to meet so many new people and have a positive impact.
Looking toward the future, Ace has plans to maintain his 4.0 GPA, and graduate as an Honor Eagle. He plans to attend an undecided college, majoring in physics and mechanical engineering. He would love to pursue a career in math and science, while also exploring the creative side of architecture and engineering. He would love to continue participating in community theater, and support the performance arts.
Adam Pogacnik is entering his senior year at Hubbard High School. As a fourth-year member of the HUB, Adam hopes to continue strengthening his writing while reporting on trending topics and global events. He joined the HUB because of his interest in creative writing, as he was also encouraged to join by his sister, Anna, a former staff writer for the HUB. Adam wants to engage readers in his works by choosing to write about topics that represent the student body’s core interests and opinions.
As a senior, Adam participates in a handful of clubs, some of which he has joined since his freshman year. Aside from the HUB, Adam is a part of ASL club and he plays the trumpet in the marching band. He is also a member of pep club and ecology club, as well as SADD and Link Crew. Adam is also a member of the National Honors Society. Outside of school, Adam enjoys hobbies such as art, reading, listening to music, and spending time with friends and family.
Adam has many goals he hopes to have maintained throughout his years at Hubbard High School. These include keeping a high GPA and excelling academically in the honors courses he is taking. After High School, Adam plans on majoring in Biomedical Engineering at a currently-undecided university, for he intends to apply to multiple different colleges. He aims to explore the many options offered in the medical field throughout his time spent on college visits and experiences. Whatever Adam chooses to do, he aspires to make a positive impact in the lives of others.
Alyssa Gregory is in her second year with The Hub, having joined during her sophomore year. After missing out on writing articles as a junior, she’s thrilled to be back and eager to write again! Currently, she’s taking a College Credit Plus (CCP) English class, and her work with The Hub will give her even more opportunities to strengthen her writing skills. Alyssa can’t wait to dive into new topics, share fresh perspectives, and expand her knowledge.
Throughout her time at Hubbard High School, Alyssa has participated in a wide range of clubs and activities. This is her fourth and final year on the Varsity Volleyball and Softball teams, and she’s also an active member of Ecology Club, English Festival, SADD, NHS, Video Production, and French Club, where she proudly serves as the French Ambassador. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family, walking in the park, and playing the piano.
As a senior, Alyssa knows that high school is almost over—it goes by so fast! She plans to attend college and major in Wildlife Biology to fulfill her dream of becoming a Wildlife Biologist. This year, Alyssa is focused on being true to herself, achieving strong academic results, and excelling in athletics. Alyssa is excited to see what is to come for this year!
Hannah Bonvissuto is starting her sophomore year of high school, and this is her first year as a part of The Hub! She’s excited to join the school newspaper, as one of her goals this year is to become more involved. Hannah joined The Hub because she’s passionate about English language arts, loves writing, and wants to share her work with her classmates. Aspiring to be a high school English teacher, she believes this experience will help improve her writing skills and deepen her love for teaching and writing. She hopes to learn about new topics and gain experience by being a part of The Hub.
At the start of her sophomore year, Hannah decided to come out of her shell and engage in more activities. She has always loved the arts, which inspired her to join the HHS Drama Club. Although she had wanted to join in the past, she was previously too nervous, but this year, she’s finally following her passion! In addition, she’s part of academic clubs like Prep Bowl, Spanish Club, and Ecology Club, where she hopes to learn and find a sense of community. Hannah also plays baritone saxophone in the school’s pep band and jazz band. She is active in Art Club, which she joined because she’s always loved making art, even though she hasn’t had time to take the class. As a member of FEA (Future Educators of America), she’s preparing for her dream of becoming a teacher. Outside of school, Hannah spends most of her time playing various instruments and reading books.
Although Hannah still has a few years before her future really begins, her current plan is to attend Ohio State University, following in the footsteps of both of her parents. She’s aiming to join as many extracurricular activities as possible and hopes to be inducted into NHS to increase her chances of getting into her dream school. In college, she plans to earn a bachelor’s degree in English with a focus on education. Hannah wants to keep creativity alive for future generations and encourage students to pursue their dreams.
Bella Linert is a sophomore at Hubbard High School and an avid reader. This is her first year with the HUB. She’s been inspired to join the staff because of her love of written media and journalism and is excited to share her views and information with her fellow students.
When not on the football field cheering on our football team, she can be found on the volleyball court, where she has been playing for four years. Along with sports, she participates in many clubs including Spanish Club, Ecology Club, Pep Club, FEA, and Drama Club, participating in as many productions as possible with her busy schedule. She is also a proud member of the Sports Video Production crew, with a passion for broadcasting and a love for interacting with her peers. She also holds the title of Sophomore Class Treasurer. However, when she is out of school Bella also works at Webbs Ice Cream and enjoys spending time with all of her friends.
Bella isn’t sure what the future holds but knows she’ll attend a prestigious college, where she hopes to further pursue her love of English and History, or perhaps major in digital media. She would also enjoy being rich and famous if she got the chance.
Landen is embarking on his first year as a member of the Hub. He is a writer for the club and is interested in expanding his writing skills. Landen wanted to join the Hub in previous years but did not have the free time to do so, which is why he’s excited to finally be a member. Landen felt that joining the Hub would be good preparation for writing better college application essays as well as the work he would complete in his studies. He is looking forward to this year as a Hub member and has many topics he would like to research and write about.
Prior to joining the Hub, Landen also became a member of several other HHS clubs such as: FEA, Pep Club, Ecology Club, SADD, and Spanish Club. He wanted to join as many clubs as possible and increase the amount of extracurricular activities he participates in. Landen was most interested in joining the Future Educators of America (FEA) because the work they do is valuable and a very grounding experience and great privilege. Outside of official clubs, Landen is also a member of Special Projects, managed by Megan Schellhorn. He enjoys the freedom of choosing his own projects and learning new skills in technology.
In the near Future, Landen has a thought out list of achievements and goals to complete, Landen plans to major in political science and later receive a bachelor’s degree in law. During his time in college, Landen would also like to pursue real estate and obtain a license to become a realtor. He has always had a passion for both professions and decided to go after both in life. Landen also wishes to study abroad and learn the culture of a country other than America. His main objective is to visit Paris, and possibly live there if his career choices will benefit him in that Country. Until then, Landen works to maintain good grades in school and take the steps necessary to place himself in situations that will set him up for success later in life.
This is Taila’s first year as a member of The Hub and she is very excited to get started. Taila’s love of writing and storytelling is what drove her to join the club and hopes that taking part will allow her to flex her creative muscles whilst also creating important and entertaining journalism for everyone at Hubbard High School.
Taila is a senior and throughout the course of her four years she’s been involved with numerous clubs and extracurricular activities, including, Drama Club, where she participated as a cast member, Mock Trial, where she shines as an award-winning attorney, and SADD. She’s also an active member in her church community and conducts the creative production team at Greater Mt. Zion Church of God in Christ. In her free time, she enjoys watching movies, recording and editing videos for her social media pages, reading, and writing.
Following her senior year Taila plans to attend Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), majoring in film and visual media. With her bachelor degree in art she wishes to become an actress and a filmmaker, continuing the use of her talents in creative storytelling and videography.
This is Taylor's first year writing for The Hub. Taylor joined the school newspaper in order to perfect her writing. In the future, she would like to be an English teacher and a writer. Taylor was apart of The Hub sophomore year and is now rejoining for her last year of highschool. She hopes to improve her writing and hopefully help others with their own writing. Taylor would like to bring attention to important topics through her writing and inspire others to do the same. She is very excited about what this year will bring!
Taylor takes part in a variety of clubs, including: theater, Spanish club, ecology club, FEA, and English festival. She played volleyball during her freshman and sophomore years and currently does track. Taylor works part time at her family's business and regal cinema. She is also a part of a few clubs outside of school such as a writing club and book club. Taylor enjoys meeting new people and learning things outside of school, which is why she involves herself with these groups.
She plans on attending university to double major in English literature and education. During her time in college she hopes to do another exchange year to further her knowledge of foreign languages. Taylor hopes to teach in a number of schools in and out of the country. A few years after graduation she would like to join the peace corps for a two year service or join Teachers of America. She wants to help create opportunities for kids to get involved in the community and obtain the best education possible.
Jackson Corbett is a staff member for the 2024–2025 HUB newspaper. He is a junior and a third-year writer for the HUB. Jack joined the newspaper because he is passionate about his writing and enjoys using this passion to entertain the masses (as in a few hundred). He is very excited to continue writing for the HUB this year.
Along with being on staff for the HUB, Jackson is also a constituent of the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Pep Band, Ecology Club, Prep Bowl, and Spanish Club. Outside of school, Jack is part of the Stambaugh Youth Concert Band, Stambaugh Youth Jazz Band, and Boy Scouts Troop 3 in Sharon.
After high school, He plans to attend Ohio State University and study as an engineer or an architect. He wishes to continue his passion for music, participating in the Ohio State Marching Band.
