Reading- Students are encouraged to practice reading every night for at least 10-15 minutes at home using a book of their choice. Research shows the best way to improve reading skills is by reading and rereading a variety of materials daily. I want to encourage the children to develop a love of reading. Please help them choose books that are just right for them and listen to them read nightly. Stop and ask questions while they are reading to make sure they are comprehending it. Parents are encouraged to continue reading aloud as well. Take turns so your child can hear you read fluently.
Our new reading series sends home weekly sheets to practice the skills we are working on in class. Please have your child read these to you.
Math- Homework- Homework will not be every day. It will be a short page to practice the 2nd grade skills we are working on. Students should be able to complete it on their own with minimal help. You can always practice flashcards for fact fluency. ( once students master 100 facts in 5 minutes they will move on to subtraction and multiplication ) Counting real coins , making change and telling time can always be practiced at home.
