Hitting and Fielding Skills
Have the team in the outfield spread out behind the pitcher. Have someone play, first, second, short stop, third and catch. The rest of the players are in the outfield. The batter will hit the ball thrown by the pitcher and only advance one base at a time. Have all the players bat once before you switch the hitting and fielding team. Any player who hits the ball off the back wall in the air is a homerun. Batters are taught how to stand, how to hold the bat, for example right hand batter should have left hand on bottom of bat and right hand on top. We discuss the reason for choking up on the bat 1. Bat to heavy and 2. Pitcher throwing very fast. Talked about stepping into the ball keeping eyes on the ball until you make contact with the ball.
Make sure- batters are using proper hand grip on the bat
- Batters don’t throw the bat
- Runners don’t miss a base when running - If the ball is caught in the air it is an out.
All players on the team hit before you switch the team from hitting to outfield.
